I'm not sure if this is a bug, working as intended, or even a new issue, but AI behaviour has become frustrating for this specific set of circumstances.

I've had alliances ruined twice in my most recent game by my peacing out separately from the AI war leader. The first time around was a war I had no interest in fighting on the other side of Europe, so once they would accept a white peace, I offered it. I was instantly called back into the war by my ally, and had to reject the call since I didn't want to lose 5 stability for breaking the truce. Later on I peaced out when it was possible for me to demand several colonies from the war. Same thing happened.

Is this normal? I'm currently operating under the assumption I can never accept separate peaces now, as the AI will try to drag me back instantly with terrible results no matter what I pick.

Did the AI start another war recently? This is the circumstances that I have encountered in which they can call you into a war you either didn't join when it started or a war you already left.

In fact, this is a simple way to call the AI into one war they would not join by starting another war they would join (as it sometimes negates some of the negative modifiers, I do not know the why behind it, but I have used it to pull Portugal into the HYW).

Either way something happened in the calculation that ignored your stab hit when decided if you would join the war.

Have you tested this in other cases than Portugal into HYW? Because I believe the only reason that Portugal joins against France in HYW, is because you DOW'd Scotland and Scotland is guaranteed by France, and hence France joins in any war against Scotland as well.

I just tested England 1444 start, DOWing Britanny instead of Scotland. Portugal joined against Brittany, but not against France.

So I am pretty certain that getting an ally into war against France via Scotland is a special case because of France guaranteeing Scotland. Doesn't work generally.

The AI will always call you to war if it thinks you will join, and it presumably uses the same calculations it uses for itself to determine whether or not you would join. So there was some giant modifier why it thinks you would join its war. I can't really say without sufficient information, and you probably won't be able to give enough sufficient information. You probably should report it as a bug, though.

As far as I know, France cannot join the Scotland war as they are already at war with you and that would put you in two wars against each other. This is the same in wars where multiple wars are occurring and none of them overlap.

Anyways, I have done this in other wars as Austria (notably with France). I do not know the factors that calculate whether or not a country joins a war. As some countries will gladly jump in, while others will not. Some because they will happily join your auxiliary war and thus join your main war, while others do not want to join your main war and thus will not join the auxiliary war. I do not remember any relationships between the wars such as a war participant in the auxiliary war having some relationship with a war participant in the main war.

There seems to be some fuzziness there as well, as it will be green and they will dishonor calls.

On top of this, the AI does this as well. I have been called into wars that were started >60 days ago when being called into an immediate war.
