1.08
I have no problems with tech in 1.08, easily reaching high levels by the mid 1700s. I don't have Swiss cheese Europe, either, in most games. Sure, in my current game, Spain has been carved up by Portugal, Baden, Netherlands and France but most of the continent is contiguous territory.
My complaint is that by allowing you to lower your tolerance of your state religion to the same level as other religions, 1.08 makes religious revolt very unlikely unless you are going through a long war. What was the justification for this change, anyway? It offers an easy out for both the player and AI when the Reformation comes. If I have six Protestant provinces but don't want to go through the trouble of converting, I can lower my Catholic tolerance to the level of Protestant (or lower?). In my current game, half of France's National Provinces are Protestant, but no signs of an impending Huguenot rebellion.
Still a great game, but religion, which was a significant issue in 1.07 has been neutered in 1.08.
