Hello,

If you already get some colonists I guess that you have already annexed Kazan, Golden Horde, Astrachan and Sibir plus some port in the Baltic. You have a huge income already. I think the easiest and cheapest way is to build one.

Usually, I take Kazan, Golden Horde, Atrakhan, Sibir and Persia before 1510. You're right; I'm rich! But it's still difficult to walk through Turkey to get to Venice. Would be great fun if there were a way to do that. Building a shipyard is boring...

What Naval Tech do you need to build a shipyard? 16? There is no way you can build a shipyard "early". Once you reach tech 16 as Russia most of the world will already be colonized, so I guess you´ll have to get a Black sea port as soon as possible and launch a naval expedition against Venice/Ragusa.

Good luck!

If you can build a big enough fleet to go wandering about, it's probably easier to take Andalusia than Ragusa ... bigger supply, and Spain tends to do a pretty bodge job of defending its homeland. Course, it's a lot further to go so you'll suffer more attrition en route, unless you knock over an african minor to serve as a resupply depot. Or be allied to Venice *against* the Turk, and use their ports as stopovers.

I have a hard time translating Heyesey's post (buckshy??) but I agree about Andalusia. If you've already got a Baltic port not that hard to reach.

But you might want to reevaluate your pressing need for a shipyard. You get plenty of colonists as it is.

Keep an eye out for a Polish-Hungarian alliance, which happens quite often, and then consider borders-after a few wars between the various AI states it's quite possible that you can now march across their entire territory straight to Ragusa, if you don't mind the probability of a double war-and you've probably still got a nice CB against the Poles!

friendly port

sorry,

did somebody mention using their allie's ports?

I have not been able to do that - there is a cross when I try to come in to lower attrition, so normally I just sail the fleets right back home after succesfully dropping off the invading army (heavy onshore resistance notwithstanding).

Advice welcome

Using your allies ports during a war is a handy option, but it's one I rarely use-although since your allies don't kick your fleet out when the war ends it can be a useful strategic move.
