I'm not liking the message settings UI much so far

So I got a few rivalry messages and I wanted to turn them off because I don't care. I hover over the message and hit a cog and it opens up the message settings window. So far so good.

Except that I have no idea what type of message those ones are. The UI doesn't highlight the one I started with or jump to there in the list (in EU4 or CK2 where picking a message and going to message settings just shows you that specific set of messages). The word Rivalry isn't a term that shows up in the list of message setting (I think so anyway, the list isn't not sortable, and its not searchable so I can't be 100% sure I haven't missed it in the long list of messages). I suspect rivalry is part of one of the other diplomatic ones, but I have no idea which one or what other messages I'll lose access to if it turn it off.

Anyone know any tricks to this or ways to make it work better?

Any plans to add tooltips (the messages could say what category they are in, and the categories could say what types of messages they apply to)?

Yeah that UI is definitely a "proof of concept" rather than a fully fledged feature. Personally I'm impressed they've even added this feature to 1.2 on top of all the other UI/UX redesigns they've been doing. I'd expect them to be making some changes between now and full release.

UI/UX friends, if you're floating around here reading this I'd love to see either a search feature or breaking down the message settings into categories of some sort. The EU4 message settings with buttons rather than a drop-down is also very easy to work with and probably the best example of message settings in PDX games I've seen.

EDIT: Adding on to this I really like the pre-made "Filter levels" in the notification filter mod. Having a few pre-built settings to swap between saves on micromanagement :) For example when I'm at war I'll swap over to using the most strict filter, and moving back to the mid-level one when at peace.

Just make CKII and EUIV message system.
Ah yes, the wonders of popups that materialize with a "ruin your playthrough" button directly under your mouse cursor.

Something I noticed with the message settings: You aren't completely free in your choice - most messages types can't be set to "Popup". I get that popups are seen as most "invasive" and "interrupting" and I perfectly can see why they aren't default...but would it be a huge problem to give me the option to freely decide that I want a popup when X happens?

From a design perspective I'd gladly provide the option of being able to set all message types to "Popup", but this is currently blocked by some old technical debt that we were not able to clear for 1.2. However, it is one of the things we wish to improve with the system.

Thank you for the quick and helpful response. I'm happy that you have this on your radar. Keep up the good work; yesterday's DD is full of nice UI stuff :)
