Im not a big fan of how random the critical events can be

The US/Germany are two big ones, the USSR can be too considering the wide range of time the purge/s can occur. If the Germany Autobahn + Austria requests German intervention are particularly late you lose a tremendous amount of industrial output, plus the uncertainty means planned builds don't always pan out as planned. Does anybody mess with the timings of the events?

I think its a good feature. I remember playing multiplayer Hoi2 and everyone had these VERY detailed (down to the day) tech and build timelines that I thought were so over the top, needing to constantly pause the game so you did not miss one hour off your timetables.

In singleplayer it adds to replayability, all good games need a small element of chance involved. Otherwise it just becomes plugging in a pre ordained formula (see above).

I agree with Nicephorus. It can be frustrating, but it makes a better game. I think it also gives an incentive to learn how to mod, if you want to make a game where the country you play gets the best chance possible to win.

You guys are taking what I say the wrong way, I don't want set in stone dates where it happens, my current change makes the approximately half as large, which is still pretty big. I never meticulously min max planned my build, but I did used the events as sort of time frames as to start new production (Say, leading up to anchluss I would start to let my extra IC go into dissent/supplies instead of building new things, so when anchluss hits I could partial mob and be in prime shape to take advantage of it. When it could take a year longer to fire a series of events(that are specifically timed out mind you, in relation to the first event) that's an absurd amount of IC lost.
