The release date on the review is q4, i.e. the last quarter of 2000 (oct/nov/dec). Greven speculated about october, but that's not confirmed and is mostly and educated guess. The game has been in the pipeline for years (I once saw a release date on the old Target Games homepage dated 1998...), but from what I can see, the delay is due to real improvements ('tweaking' the AI) and probably owing a bit to TG's demise and the 'new' Paradox.

Welcome there is a lot to look at and make you long for the release date. Make sure you check out old Post (AAR's used to be in this section and I think they started posting them in late march or early April.

Real improvements is an understatement .. you can't possibly imagine what a change this game has gone through in the last 6 months.

Not so much 'visually', but the gameplay tweaks / a.i changes, have all been argued to death over by some very knowledgable beta testers (Greven, Matthew, Heiko, Marcus, etc), just to name a few. Their dedication is remarkable, especially in the case of Greven who's been sweating his bollocks off at a particular 'venture' for the last 8 weeks -- the poor Swedish lad.

Here, Greven, have a can of special brew on me! :) Field, flip back 20->100 days in the AAR / General forum to read through the threads and the AAr's to get better aquainted with the game. When you come across my whinings over getting Poland included, disregard ;)

Welcome to the site Field_Marshal.

I noticed that Sapura in his modesty, or perhaps shortness in time due to an intriguing campaing as Poland, forgot to mention his own name in the list of knowledgable betatesters that go to great length to prove his point :).

I have to agree with Sapura in that there have been great improvements to the game since the betatesting begun! Hold out everyone and you'll be in for a real treat (and (hopefully) a very jouyous holiday :) )!!

Heh, that's true. I don't stop until there's blood on the carpet -- my opponents blood that is ;)

Agreed, Paradox made the perfect decision for an international beta test -- doubt there's been as much work or dedication put into a game by non designers/programmers of a game in a long time, as there has for EU.

If Paradox made a perfect choice with the beta testing team, how much better would it have been if the 60+ originally nominated actually turned up to the forum, instead of just pissing off with their CDs - it's like the House of Lords on the graveyard shift sometimes on the Beta Tester forum.
Or how about if those clammering at the gate of the General Discussions thread were let in to the Beta Tester forum? Or if the system administrator did some administrating?

Matt,

I agree with you in some ways, but do remember that ppl live many different lifestyles and cannot always contribute as much as you or Greven to the development of this game. I doubt that all 60+ though should be categorized in this manner, though. Some are just lazy .. or perhaps the game is not what they hoped for and merely shelved it. Or perhaps they just don't have any decent suggestions seeing that a core amount of testers is doing most of the work, perhaps they see it as if they shouldn't interfere?

Still, do you deny the influence and changes of the game based upon the international team's suggestions?

Hey Matt,

don't be so ironic even aggressif.

Everyone can't be as implied as you in this game. Other obligations make that we all can't be to 100% on the EU tests.

I agree with Sapura, be tolerant and lenient with all others Beta Testers. And much of changes are the work of the reflexions and suggestions of a very great number of us.

We want all that EU be a great success but don't forget that there is a life apart from EU!

Hi again,

Sorry it has taken me so long to reply; you see I went to Hilton Head the day after posting and forgot to bring my lap top. Anyhow thank you all for your warm replies. I notice that many of the people on this forum are mature and I must compliment you all on that.

Regards,

If this is the case, I don't understand why they didn't allow more beta testers - especially seeing the number of people here on the public forum that have shown genuine interest and devotion to this game.

I don't know if it would be a good idea to let everyone into the Beta Forum, but perhaps they should grant access to those of us out here in the cold who have demonstrated a genuine, creative interest.

As for the poor administration, I do agree that this site could use better maintenance. But then again, that is also the case with countless other sites for upcoming games.

Probably because fine tuning of the game is almost complete .. had they thought these testers weren't doing a good enough job they would have taken on more. Since they haven't it must mean that they didn't need to. There maybe a high % who haven't done too much, or nothing at all, but that doesn't mean the rest haven't been working hard.

Might be too late for all that now.. still if Patric wanted help he would have asked for it, methinks. I'm sure there would be a few testers that could keep this site updated every 1-2 days.
