The African men look awesome. Some really good work was done there. The African women on the other hand look pretty much identical. I tested this by starting a game, console cheating some cash in, and mashing the "Introduce Debutante" button about 30 times. The result was dozens of female, African courtiers who look pretty much identical. This was also a problem with the Mongol DLC where many of the males would have pretty much the same face (and it wasn't even a good face either).

I shouldn't have to say this, but Asian and Black people do not all look the same! I assure whomever is in charge of designing these portrait sets that the idea that black women or Asian men all look the same is really just a stereotype! Really...! :p

On another note, what is up with that facepaint headset for African dukes? The kings don't seem to have it. The counts don't seem to have it. The dukes seem to uniformly get it though. What is the story on that?

I think the same thing that happens when you marry white and arab. You have a chance of either ending up with either a black kid or a white kid. This is how I ended up with a long line of brown kings of Scotland.

It seems to (Kindof) happen some of the time. At least, while playing as a Byzantine African empress, three children had African faces and another had the lighter complexion of the middle eastern faces. (married a white Swede)

For whatever reason, one of my kids (born of two Irish parents) was apparently influenced in his race when educated by what I think was an Ethiopian princess.

which was kind of unfortunate

This bug was present in the earlier versions of CK2 & the demo, but it was fixed a while ago and didn't happen as of v1.06e. I mod my portraits and flip cultures quite extensively and haven't come across this situation, although you can end up with a european wearing muslim clothes if their culture is middle eastern. Do you have a screenshot?

Does anyone know whether this DLC is compatible with 1.06? Or do I need to upgrade my game to use it?

I actually feel almost like I shouldn't have bought the African faces DLC...

The reason being, I like my characters to look realistic, and I don't want to see the off chance that an African king somehow marries a Swedish princess and they get a child who looks perfectly European or perfectly African in appearance, because that's just going to look stupid, especially since European features seem to more or less get cancelled out in real life when a child is half-European and half-African.

That said, I do have a little hope, seeing as I've seen games where the Golden Horde (with the Mongol faces DLC being used) makes their way, sometimes as far west as Denmark, and created half Mongol, half Northern European heirs, and the heirs do actually come out looking like they should, with kind of Mongol/European features, sort of like Cumans I guess,

I'm not sure how they could distinguish the African women portraits from one another to a good degree? Can anyone tell me if they have a good variety of clothing on them?

Don't tell me they're all bald like in these pictures? That's just going to make things even more complicated! :p

Could we not just have the whole Mali/Nubia area taken out of the game? Does anybody play as them?
I personally dont, and though they add flavour, they also take some of the "medieval" feeling out of the game... I liked it better before these areas were added, and I would rather want other areas, where these free provinces could be used...

And if what I just wrote sound like BS to you, then at least there should be a restriction to how far away you can get your brides... As there is both + and - things when you do diplomacy, there should also be a - factor on distance... The longer away, the less likely are they to accept, unless there really is something prestigous about the marriage, that would add a + factor...

Characters did marry partners from all across the map (Anna of Kiev, queen mother of the French king in 1066) so it's not entirely off.

Plus, the Moroccans tend to get sucked into wars with their neighbours in the south in 11th and early 12th century which takes their attention off Spain, this is good & historical & makes Spain more interesting.

As for mixed-marriage kids: Come on! The mixed-race thing with kids inheriting either 100% father's or 100% mother's looks has been there since the original game release. it works like that for Mongol-looking and for Muslim-looking characters. You just have to deal with it, the game is not a genetics simulator. Don't marry African brides if you dislike having black kids, mmmh kay? :p

In the mod subforum you can look into the thread "Crackedtoothgrin's graphical goodies" (or something like that) where mad king James posted a whole lot of photos from east-African women in tribal costumes. Basically, short hair isn't that far off, and the costumes vary considerably depending on what group you look at.
