I'm just as happy, thrilled and excited over Cities Skylines 2 as anyone else on planet Earth. I'm curious if planet Earth is making itself TOO EXCITED and thrilled that Cities Skylines 2 will be a BIG letdown.

The thought above has been gnawing at the back of my mind for a few days now.

I see many posts like these and I’m not just mentioning you, but right now we know practically nothing about the game. Of course there is no chance CS2 will have everything the original game has as that is over 8 years of work and people have created amazing things for it.

But the new game opens up a wealth of opportunities that the original game could not have due to resource, hardware, time limitations or many other things at that time. So let’s wait and see what happens next and I’m sure the devs and have listened to us and have full intentions of having them in this game.

I would take a new blank empty game with better engine, better core systems and less limitation over the old limited CS1 with hundred of DLCs that can't fix the game issues all day.

Yeah, for all we know WE FANS could have created CS2 with everything that everyone has put into it. Which would be the COOLEST MOST AMAZING thing ever. to have a dev take our input the way Paradox has to make our dreams come true! Mickey who...where dreams come true is NOW Paradox!

Cities Skyline started originally as a passion project and after Colossal Order being succesfull with that approach I doubt CS2 would be any different. Usually people tend to consider what brought them success in the past as the best way forward :)

As players we all have ran into the limits of the game at some point, some maybe more than others but I would say this holds even more true for the devs. They know the decisions they made and later regretted how they limited them, even if at the time they were sound decisions. So I am very optimistic Colossal Order will take this opportunity to make CS2 amazing as something not to waste and to also make sure CS2 has the foundation to scale up, grow and become something unique in the computer game word.

I am also really curious about the dlc roadmap.

Exactly my hope. If we start with a fundamentally good base game, DLC and mods can make it even better.

One worry is we, the vocal minority of super fans, want and expect something very different than what Paradox has found through research. If 95% of buyers want gimmicks and cartoonish stuff...that is what we will get. However, looking at the DLC over the years, it is pretty clear what sells is the serious stuff that makes the game more realistic as a city builder.

The other worry is there is a complete and unwanted curveball built deep into the game engine that we would find undesirable ) and it was hard to undo that with mods.

That's a trend of the industry lately, we've seen realism replaced with childish and teenagery stuff in gaming, probably because publishers think their major audience is 8 to 14 years old average or because they think players love childish stuff.

The good thing is that recently the market showed that players hate childish stuff and love more adult and realistic themes, that's why games like Forspoken, Midnight Suns or Saints Row failed miserably and have been commercial failures while games like Elder Ring or Gods of War have been a success.

Seems like even teenagers love more adult and serious stuff.

This is my fear as well....that we will get a bunch of cartoony, futuristic buildings again, since CS 1 has that style and it was successful.

If the game has realistic buildings and a better engine, that would be enough for me to buy it.

I would not worry about it.

When CS released they had a lot of cartoony stuff.

However, if you look at DLCs, Industry, Campus, etc. they started to use more and more realistic builidings, to the point that Vanilla assets are so dissonant with DLCs ones.

This is a clear signal they want to switch from cartoony to realistic in my book.
