There's an option that controls how likely the 'fantasy' New World tiles are, ranging from 'Frequent' to 'Never'. I'm pretty sure those weird-looking ones are in the fantasy category.
Oh are they? In my last game I got the Paradox platypus, and that was really cool, but if it adds the cross and path islands I might just turn them off...

I suppose someone with a lot of free time who likes to generate RNWs might eventually document everything tile type along with screenshots of what each look likes... but that has not yet happened.
Well, if you open the map/random/tiles/data folder you can see the rough shape from the province maps. Also, if you grep for 'fantasy = yes' in the .txts you will find the fantasy tiles. So it's pretty self-documenting.

This. My first game with the new system was as Hamburg and much to my surprise all the trade zones from the entire new world went directly to Genoa or the English channel, bypassing the North Sea and by extension Lubeck entirely. Because of the way End Nodes work this is a pretty game breaking feature for anyone playing someone further east than Holland.

In contrast, I generated a new world where ALL new world trade flowed to North Sea or Australia. So it could work out very well instead.

If the trade goes to English Channel, i guess that gives your Hamburg a military objective in the Low Countries, doesn't it?
