today I stumbled in a very odd situation. I was located nearly a xenophobic Fallen Empire who awakened nearly 200 years from game start. His fleet was about 100K in strength, mine only 35K so when they demanded me to became a thrall I accepted.
Unfortunately, when I was still free I placed a indipendence guarantee on a little empire south of my position...well not only this guarantee endured but after a few years the Awakened Empire declared on this state and I found myself at war with my overlord! I was thrashed in war, forced to cede four systems and more, I found myself incapable of revoking that guarantee because "the actor must be indipendent". After another 15 years the Awakened declared again and I found myself again with pants down...then I ragequitted.
Sounds like a bug to me and a game-breaking one too.
