I'm a Duke without a county holding

I wasn't sure if this was a bug. Background: I was an Ashkenazi Jewish (who later became Lomard) Lord Mayor of the Republic of Amalfi and constant holy wars led to me losing all my counties an demesne except for a barony I had in Rome. So, I became a Duke, but the county is held by a vassal. My thought was that you lost when you lost control of all of your counties. Or is it only that you cannot start off as a baron, but can play as one when you still have a barony remaining somewhere?

It's not a bug. It's entirely possible for a Duke to only have a barony as his holding. So long as you have the ducal title (or higher) you'll be able to continue playing.
