Illinois is a new formable tag in the new owrld. It seems to represent the great lakes area, so lets add some ideas, events and other little changes that will make it better. Here's something I've whipped up to try to make Illinois a little more Unique.

Random
#1 Move Capital to Kaskaskia province
#2 Rename Illinois Province to Fort Dearborn when owned by american culture
#3 Give Tier 1 GOVT Reform - American/Federal Republic similar to Vermont and USA
#4 Change Flag to 1918 Bi-centennial State flag, currently uses City of Chicago flag which makes no sense - #5 Change Kaskaskia/Illinois Province to have Coal to show the large coal reserves within the state
#6 Change Primary Culture to American
#7 Use American Unit Models
#8 Change Adjective to Illinoian for consistent pronunciation, I think too many people will attempt to pronounce the S in Illinois which is incorrect.

Ideas
Traditions - No Religion Penalty, Cheaper Culture conversion
Ambition - Army Morale
#1 Conquer the Prairie - Development Cost
We till the land, we turn the soil. When Europeans first arrived on the plains, it was a sea of grass ready to be conquered. Iron weapons forged European nations, a steel plow forged an American Empire.
#2 The Nile of North America (Mississippi River) - Trade Effeciency, movement speed
The Mississippi River Valley provided a natural highway of rivers that would rapidly increase the speed and distance that traders could traverse the area. Once the power of the river was harnessed for commercial use the potential for trade grew exponentially.
#3 The Blackhawk Wars - Land Fire Damage
As the settlers moved west, they faced renewed wars with the natives. The near constant hostility taught the settlers a strong culture of the rifle was needed. The end of the Blackhawk wars brought an end to Native resistance in the region.
#4 The Oregon Trail - Colonist +1
Manifest Destiny. A new nation expands west with the Oregon Trail, a trip fraught with dangers. Disease, Indian attacks, and nature all took their toll on the journey.
#5 Circle the Wagons! - Inf Combat ability, shock damage recieved
The Conestoga wagon was the heavy wagon of choice for the push west. Like the Hussites of Bohemia, the American colonist would circle the wagons to make ad-hoc defense.
#6 The American Breadbasket - Goods Modifier
Receeding glaciers and multiple river networks have created the most fertile soil on earth. This incredible fertility of the Mississippi river basin allowed American farmers to turn a frontier into a profitable industry.
#7 Riverboat Flotilla - Light Ship attack power
The inland seas of North America gave way to the riverboat flotilla. Smaller frigates and gunboats were able to exert influence through the rivers and lakes to build an American hegemony.

Events
#1 New Madrid Earthquake
Dec 16 1811 - Affected province - Quapaw - 50% Devastation, -5% Dev Cost for 10 years in Upper Louisiana, Arkanas, Kentucky and Tennessee
Jan 23 1812 - Affected province - Michigamea - 75% devastation
Feb 7 1812 - Affected province - Michigamea - 100% Devastation Loss of 3 Dev

#2 Louis Jolliet
May 17 1673 - Event to Hire Navigator Level 3 at -50% cost
Accept - Gain 25Prestige
Decline - Lose 5 Prestige

#3 Lewis and Clark Expedition Chain
Starting 1803 MTTD of 12 months - Fund the Expedition - cost 100g and 500 Manpower. Decline ends Chain
May 14th, 1804 - Expedition Begins - Can Use random Conquistador events to add flavor during expedition
September 23, 1806 - Expedition Ends - Gain 25 Prestige, Explores and claims on Badlands, Dakota, Upper Missouri, Columbia River and Puget Sound

Completely disagree. Illonoian refers to something else completely unrelated to Illinois. There are many words with silent letters that get the proper spelling both in EU4 and in real life. If people don't know the proper pronunciation, that's their fault, you should not have to change the actual word.

I know it's supposed to be illinoisan, but a lifetime of hearing the S being pronounced is pretty grating. I saw the term Illinoian used in geology, so it is a term used elsewhere.

If people don't know the proper pronunciation, that's their fault, you should not have to change the actual word.
That's not exactly how languages work. There have been many ortographic reforms in various languages across the centuries (English included) that changed spellings of various words no problem. But such reforms are done by governments and not by a community of a strategy game. So I'll agree with you on that. We should be using spellings officially considered correct.
