Seems like one criticism of HOI4 (by no means the largest one) was also lack of ledger. Although not one of the biggest complaints, surely "low-hanging fruit" for what to easily change (or rather, revert to) in newest title. Kinda thought PDS might go back to the ledger in I:R. Guess not.

The ledger leads to some scummy tactics in CK2, so no wonder they left it out. Maybe they'll wait a bit and make a more defined ledger. As in scummy, it is pretty crazy being able to invite someone to court with 800 gold and no inheritors. I don't know how it'd work in I:R but I don't see not having the ledger as a bad thing. The diplomatic map mode not showing who you can declare on seems to have been a common complaint lately. The ck2 one is perfect, they should use something like that: click on nation and it shows relationships/yellow if you can declare/clicking on the state shows allies in blue or some color.

His criticism of the tribal experience was based on faulty knowledge of loyalty of the clan retinue troops to their clan leader and the frustration he experience4d because of that lack of understanding ... also the migration frustration seemed linked to the loyalty issue as well - lack of control over other clan chief retinues being the key frustration.

For someone who loved CK2, he spent very little time on the individual characters and the events linked to them.

Their new games are better at giving the information where it should be such as being able to see a country's military strength by selecting it rather than having to check the ledger.

Seems fair overall but based on what I've seen of the game I'd have taken at least a half point more off for the poor ui and qol features. The fact that many of the solutions exist in their other games or issues are obvious from just a few mins of watching others play is what gets me most. UI is so important to these games, step it up paradox!

Still thank god for the return of message settings.

It does feel like Paradox reinvents the UI from scratch every time that they make a new game instead of making sure that it has all of the same features of the UI from the other games. I suppose the charitable interpretation here is that they want each game to have a UI that suits it, but it is frustrating to have 'lost' QoL features.

Lol
But I love finding a hidden feature behind a tiny button after playing for many hours. It adds to the "pride and accomplishment" feeling.
And It leaves you with the magic feeling that, don´t know, may be there are still some misteries waiting to be found...

I think the ui migh be one of the main problem, i don't think it is bad but it doesn't seem very good either. When streamers of their studio have trouble finding the right button it should raises some questions. Of course, streamers havn't developped the wole game and are not always programmers but a good ui is a ui you can undesrstand easily, especially if they intend to find new players with no experience in their games. In complex game like I:R it is difficult to make good ui, but some icons seems to be not that clear what they are(they always click on 3 buttons before finding the right one between diplomacy/religious .etc tab, same concern for tactics and quite subjective "attributes" for animals"). For example the agressive expansion icon, i might be the only one to have the issue but i think there is not enough contrast between the sword and the paper, I had to take some seconds to figure out what was this icon. Some of their programmer even mentioned on the dev clash it was not intuitive to find the war exhaustion (because it is in religion tab not war tab).
Ledeger was good but maybe a bit cheaty, in eu4 I use it to check exaclty how much troops my ennemies have before delcaring war. It would be best to have a spy system. You have to send spy/bribe high ranked officials in foreign countries to estimates how much troops they have, what is their economical and political situation, who has a low loyalty and might defect to you... Trade could be used to reduce spying cost/increase success chances, this way you will have to think twice before agreeing to trade with someone else (If AI take it into account).

It could also be interesting to have counter espionage too. This could lead to a chance to misinform the enemy. I think that it would be great to fool the enemy into thinking that you are stronger than you are and therefore not attacking you, or making it attack you, because it thinks that you are weak.
