1) I've installed the IGC and continued a game I'd started as Spain. All is well so far. I've read all the technical changes that were made in comparision with the old GC but I was curious as to what peoples play impressions were. Do they think the IGC is harder/easier than the GC or do they think that the play balance is different. Have you had to change your strategies for playing different nations. I'm interested in any strategy musings about the IGC vs GC

2) Anyone know the game mechanics behind new CoTs forming? I'd love for a CoT to sping up in North America

I'm not sure that you CAN continue an existing game with the IGC. I was under the impression that the IGC was a new campaign, without reference to the basic engine.

I have played only IGC since it came out, so it is hard for me to compare the two. It seems that Russia really gains in the IGC because they get New Ingermanland from the start (and so have a coast and get settlers) even though they lose Pskov and another province whose name I cannot recall offhand. Regaining Pskov and the other province is a lot easier than winning a war against the Teutonic Order, I have found.

It seems that Russia really gains in the IGC because they get New Ingermanland from the start (and so have a coast and get settlers)

Having a coastline does not give you settlers; wharves do. Russia needs to colonize Ingermanland to get a port, then she needs to reach naval tech 16 to build a wharf - only then will she benefit.

even though they lose Pskov and another province whose name I cannot recall offhand. Regaining Pskov and the other province is a lot easier than winning a war against the Teutonic Order, I have found.

Pskov is independent in the regular GC too, and Russia loses no provinces in the IGC. However, Kazan loses the province of Ryazan, which is the Ryazan Khanate in the IGC.

Using an old savegame from the original GC will deprive You of many features of the IGC. Also some things will be a bit screwed. I advice everyone to begin a new game once the IGC is installed.

Is this correct? I thought that the Orthodox religion gave a +1 to colonists, but that NO colonists are received unless the country in question has a province with a port. Therefore, Russia would start getting colonists as soon as she gets a port (which would be immediately in the IGC). I seem to recall this being borne out in my play.

Anyone?

I'm fairly sure Russia gets 1 settler per year right from the start in the IGC 1.08. Being able to leave the Order alone for many years is a huge boon IMO. Of course, if memory serves, Crimea seems to have more provinces which becomes a pain around 1530 or so for me. Not that I mind though. :)

In fact it´s a bit complicated. In the IGC it´s like this:

- Russia doesn´t get settlers from colonial dynamism until 1560.
- They get *one* settler from being orthodox.

They *wouldn´t* get any settlers, even after 1560, if they wouldn´t have a harbour. That´s why they get 1 settler per anno in the IGC from the start (Ingermanland), but not in the GC, where they have to conquer Ingermanland first.

The reason why Ingermanland is a level 1 colony is:

- You can only build ships in a city port (and we wanted to delay Russian shipbuilding).
- You can only build a wharf (and get an *additional* settler) in a city port.

The difference between GC and IGC in this respect is, all things considered, subtile. In the GC Russia doesn´t start with that settler. BUT if in the GC Russia conquers Ingermanland early, they not only do get that settler, they also immediately build ships, which they cannot do that early in the IGC. (Even if they hold on to Ingermanland, they do not upgrade it with their yearly settler. Don´t know why that is, but gameplaywise it turned out to be fine as they start to build ships late, which was intended. :))

That makes sense. I remember putting my first 5 settlers into Ingermanland now that you mention it being a level 1 colony. Personally I like having colonies around that you have to expand before they start being really valuable. No wasted settlers in Russia. :)
