Ok, maybe I should post this as a poll BUT:

Which minor do you guys consider the most fun to play in the GC/IGC ??? Which minor has the best expansion options? ... Etcetera, just reply whatever you want to reply on this.

Just wanted to know 'cuz I plan on restarting with a minor.

Brandenburg has a some high end leaders, some good opportunities for expansion and also some very big nasty foes about so things aren't too easy. I think of all my games thus far my first Brandenburg campaign that I turned into an AAR was the highlight.

I've also had great fun as Sweden and the Teutonic Order. Persia was interesting as well.

I've never gotten into a game as one of the Italian minors- and I really don't know why.

I've tried Uzbekistan which is a real challenge - the Persians and later the Russians can eat you for lunch and still feel peckish. You need an Ottoman alliance to survive, is my idea.

Also played as the Barbary corsairs of Algiers. Good fun, though the leader and monarch files need to be tweaked. As Algeria, ally with the Ottomans and chew off som Mameluck chunks. Diploannex Tunis, Morocco, and later Nubia. Take Tangiers. Generally, be a pain in the Spanish butt. Try to get a foothold in some of the Mediterranean islands or in Andalusia.

I have tried brandenberg, venice, papal states, and bohemia.by 1540 as bohemia i still had yet to recieve a leader so i scrapped that game.As papal states i found cannon costs to be prohibitive(53d per to start!)and decided i could never bust out of italy without cannon so i scrapped that one.Venice was cool as their regular commanders all have a siege value of 1.The best though was BRA-Great leaders-lots of CB sheilds-room for expansion in all directions.

I tried Ethiopia ... I thought I'd start the Haile Selassie thing early, planned on stopming Italy just for the hell of it.

Sadly I'd not recommend it. Playing an African nation away from the mediterranean is sooo hard. You think its hard to DOW and take a stability hit? I would gladly have taken the chance. But I didn't get a diplomat for years. Couldn't do I thing. What tech group is Ethiopia in? Exotic?

Hansa is fun if you play a dipolmatic/economic game. No leaders so expansion within Europe is hard. Given some good random events colonies are possible. I managed colonizing Delaware to Roanoake and a few t/ps in Africa and Asia.

Denmark can be fun with proper alliances...they get some good leaders as well. Precarious position keeps things interesting. I found grabbing Holstein and Bremen (from Hansa) very early on helped my economy develop much quicker.

I'm looking forward to giving Brandenburg, Venice, Teutonic Order and Savoy a shot. BiB's Flanders scenerio looks like it could be a winner as well (based on his AAR.)

Ethiopia is one of the hardest countries to play in the IGC, but it can be led to glory with the right strategy. :)
It is in the orthodox tech group btw.

Ok thx

Thx ppl for the advice...
I started a IGC with Brandenburg two days ago. Everything is going fine.
I've already annexed Pommerainia, Holstein and the province of Danzig from Poland. After the small war vs Poland I signed a peace treaty with them. I'm in a very powerfull alliance: Spain, England, Milan and me. Hehe.

Some events happened: Papal States annexed by Tuscany, the whole Mameluke empire annexed by Turkey, Milan just recently annexed by France. And the biggest annexation in my eyes: Austria was peacefully annexed by Spain. Spain is huge now :)

Spain and England just declared war upon France (+ Savoy,Loraine & Brittany). My fleet lies now in front of Brittany, boarded with 24k recruits. I'm planning to invade Brittany and that way back stab France, while they are fighting Spain in Flanders, Rousillon & Navarra & England in Calais. :)
France is getting their butts kicked BIG time :)
Hehe
Maybe I can annex Brittany, that would give me a nice foothold in the real west of Europe :)

Not cool that my game crashed back to Windows already two times though :(
I had to conquer Danzig again... (but with Spain's help, that wasn't too difficult :) )

I'd love to hear about it. Either here or in another thread. Are you working on a AAR?

Sorry, Mr. Green, no AAR. I did some testgames with Ethiopia for balance purposes when I put it into the IGC (long ago now! :)). The strategy in two words is "be patient". They get a yearly colonist (orthodox!) and You have to save Your money to upgrade the southern cities up to the point where they have a positive growth value. If You get a random conquistador/explorer You can later explore the Afrikan coast to the south. Upgrade Your cities with Kanzlers asap and have a go at Nubia, when they are weak and/or embroiled in a war against the Mamelukes. You can trade in the CoTs at Alexandria and Mascate. Once the initial hardships are over, You can become quite strong as there are some ok leaders available. The main goals in the midgame should be a) getting to Egypt and b) colonising the South.

Yipikayee :)
I made the right choice in choosing Brandenburg :)
I now have: Brandenburg (daah), Pommerainia, Danzig from Poland, Hanseatic League, Holstein, 2 Danish provinces (the ones left and right of their capital), 2 Swedish ones, i annexed one province of Saxony plus the whole red country to my southeast (forgot name). Also trashed into Holland after it formed. I even have a cool amount of colonies in North America and India through some nifty sea chart exchange :)
