Adding a few cents to the Muhammad discussion: there was a 2005 RTS called Quraish which was developed in Syria and there were no issues with the Prophet being potentially on the loosing side of battles and events. Of course, given the scope of interactions in CK2 that might've been a different situation entirely, just pointing out that the topic is not automatically offensive to all Muslims. While the Prophet is revered as the Messanger of God, he is still seen as human.

Personally, I believe the CK2 rules can't handle migration and culture in a manner decent enough to portray the discussed time period in any useful, entertaining and playable fashion. If I were to vote on a DLC idea, this would get my vote: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...lam-new-govts-bookmark-cadet-branches.905195/ :)

Any CK2 startdate before the the Sunni / Shia schism is a no go area due to the religious sensitivity issues concerning Muhammad, the early pre schism Caliphs, and his son in law Ali and his grandson Husayn which are especially important due to current events in the Middle East. The last thing we need is ISIS or some other Islamic jihadist group bombing Paradox's offices due to the way the founding figures of Islam are depicted in a game. Besides the time period between the final division of the Roman Empire and rise of the Karlings is better suited for a separate game. Paradox will be wise to consult some Islamic theologians both Sunni and Shia in order to depict the rise of Islam in a non controversial fashion.

What I would want is a late game DLC including the early renaissance, the introduction of gunpowder, banks, corruption mechanics, better support for the 100 years war, improved HRE, cadet branches and other general love for the late game. Currently the year 1400 feels exactly the same as the year 867, just with less Vikings.
This! If not china then this. Especially gunpowder and cadet branches.

Would love to see them get rid of shattered retreat and fix tutoring for children. Would also like councilors with positive opinions to accept the King's rule.
That's about it. With the inclusion of better plague mechanics, if they fix this the game will be as good as it needs to be. Maybe throw a bone to the crusaders and make some content for them, but including the fix for shattered retreat and fixing child tutoring in ironman is all I need to start playing CK2 again.

While I'd love to have China added, I think it would be best reserved for CK3 (and why not Korea and Japan too). I would love to see a more complex chain of events regarding the 1st Crusade, such as a poor people's crusade followed by a barons' crusade (multiple armies joining forces). They could be similar to adventurers with replenishing troops, allied to each other and be relatives to actual rulers (like brothers, cousins or second sons), forming pacts with the Byzantine empire/Papacy or even an alliance to be allowed safe passage. And then, if they do conquer Jerusalem, the same could be done for Muslims in their 1st Jihad in a counter-attack like Saladin did in the 3rd Crusade. It would be very complex, but would add more depth to the game instead of just having the Pope call a random Crusade.

When I started thinking about this I thought filling out the gaps in the bookmarks would be the better choice, but after reading this thread I agree with crusade revamp/upgrades.

The biggest problem with filling in the bookmark gaps is people who don't have Charles or TOG have bookmarks starting at 1066, not 769 (so there are no gaps)

Am i the only one who would have loved to play as a baron ? With the deeper gameplay the baronnies would require, it would be great. ATM we don't have many interactions with them...
Interactions has nothing to do with playability. I had vassal merchant republic in every of my games, and they generally were doing their stuff when I was doing mine.

I'd like to see a greater focus on peacetime activities and the actual aspects of rulership as well as more focus on dynasty management. Cadet branches have long been a thing that should be in a dynasty simulator game that seem notably lacking in this game. Same with bastard dynastys like FitzRoyal.

Really though, internal focus on rulership would be key. Right now, the game is a lot of waiting around for the next war, but I don't really feel like a king or whatever running an actual country. I might have the odd vassal rebellion or the odd uprising but most are put down pretty quickly. I want to have event chains detailing some of the actual decisions rulers were forced to deal with that could have a positive/negative influence on your vassals because as it stands right now I feel like the only interaction with them is negative or thinly positive, i.e. giving them titles or putting down their rebellion, so something that makes that actual task of rulership feel more weighty and interesting.

I'd also like more events around dynasty management. This includes a branch that is too attenuated being ordered by the pater familias, you, to stop using the family surname. Or dealing with your nephew hauling off and marrying a commoner and bringing shame to the family name. I recently had a game where my king's brother, and the king's heir, married his only son matrilineally to a random countess. How did the head of the family not put the kibosh on that?

I just generally want more stuff like that. After all, this is supposed to be a dynasty simulator at it's core, so I want the mechanics we have to be deepened, not have them throw some other random system in there that will need another couple DLCs to be kinda fleshed out.
