That seems extremely difficult, since you'd have to reach the first exploration idea before Portugal or Spain gets quest for the New World. Of course you might manage to fluke it and get it, but it'd just involve constantly retrying every time you get a colony and then finding out that you've failed, again and again without even being to see the European provinces. This could take an innumerable number of times and wouldn't be fun and almost entirely luck dependant.

If you take expansion as your first idea as one of the southern Daimyos you can colonize Taiwan pretty fast.

Reichtiges Reichkommisariat(name probably too close to the bad reich): As Germany/HRE. Control the Asian continent only through subjects.
Co-Prosperity lake: As Japan. Control every coast bordering the Pacific and Indian ocean either through subjects or directly.

Of course it's difficult, just like WC with Ryukyu or some other achievements. And if you don't manage to rush to America, well, you can still play as a japanese colonial power instead of quitting.
