Nothing feels better than restoring the true Roman Empire as the Byzantines while destroying those bloody Latin-speaking, Lorica Segmentata-wearing, Pagan gods-worshiping, fake Roman usurpers that don't even have Constantinople as capital!

It irks me to no end when people use that hideous invention of a name for the Eastern Roman Empire.

It irks me to no end when people use that hideous invention of a name for the Eastern Roman Empire.

It is indeed an invented name but it's also due to the fact that the Roman Empire takes its name from the city of Rome whilst the "Byzantine Empire" takes its name from the city of Byzantium (which was renamed into New Rome and then Constantinople during the reign). But it is irritating when you see it written that way as it makes it seem like a separate entity from the Roman Empire. I don't see anyone calling the WRE the Milanese Empire or the Empire of the Mediolanum. Or Ravennese Empire. It'd be funny to call it the Split Empire though (capital was last moved to Spalatum, modern day Split of Croatia)
