Sorry, but I disagree. Yeah, with those modifiers we don´t really expect them to be beatable on the battlefield. But with that kind of expansionism we should expect some kind of coalition against them, no?

Even with +100% discipline and 5 million manpower the smaller weaker powers should try to keep safety in numbers no?

Well no, according to the changes made a few patches ago the AI will only make coalitions if it feels it has a chance of winning, which against +50% discipline and 1 million manpower and all the other modifiers Jan Mayen gets it doesn't really stand a chance of winning, so no coalition.

I added more intricacies to diplomacy and made events related to diplomacy in my mod. released bears in 1444 and they conquered all the way to novgrod before a coalition was formed against them. they are on brink of extinction in 1461

in my mod provinces defect without treaty if the controller of the province has claim or core

And you don´t see a problem with that? That because they don´t stand a chance to win they just passively wait for the (Polar) bear to eat them?

Hell, if anything the ones that lost their nerve should willingly become vassals to the bear.

Well, anyone who has blobbed enough knows that coalitions are a barrier to break once and then you are just too big to fail and you can do whatever and the AI can´t really do much about it.

But, heh I forgot that they get Imperialism CB that gives you -50% AE.

I still think AE as a mechanic is kinda silly and that the AI should be more dynamic regarding alliances for survival and alliances to cut down someone to size. But I understand that improving the AI is much harder to do that for me to say

AE is not a great mechanic, but this (allowing small countries to take on larger ones/providing a good end game strategy experience) is a very difficult area of game design and the industry has been grappling with this problem for decades to no avail. AE is probably one of the more sane solutions out there, though it needs a significant amount of tweaking from time to time.
