Even if you continue playing when out of power, to alter things so that the player character has some sort of power to act when they're not the ruler would be a pretty stupendous overhaul of the game.
You could make baronies in republics playable, so even if you lose the Doge title, you still have your barony. With something like the Senate from EU:Rome, you could make it quite interesting.

Expansion of republics is more of a trouble IMO, maybe if said baronies could not hold any other titles.

...No? Just because you stop being the Doge doesn't mean you're completely unlanded. Your family could still be a powerful faction within the state even if not top of the heap. :)

This is my point. There ARE dynasties. Big families. Eventually the wort dynastic is wronge, English isn't my mother language, but it wouldn't be true to say "Republics haven't to do anythink with dynasties/families". All old republics I know, had big families which make politics. It's unimportant how you call them. Dynasties, Nobility, Patriciate or Hanseat. Sometimes it was dynastic. Look at the family of Partecipazio. Here a list of the Doges from this family in the German Wikipedia: http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Partecipazio. 7 Doges ae from this family in the years 811 to 942. I think this had some similarities with dynasties?

And yes, I don't want to have a Republic with allways the same family as Ruler. You should have a Baronie as holding or play landless. And you must tryy to became or keep your family in power. With corruption, trade... With money!

And yes. The big families should all be in the Grand Council of Venice (or any other republic). So you have to vote for laws or other things.

In an interview, Johan said the next DLC is going to be "big", "at least as big as SoI" and "its been widely requested since launch". Sounds like Northern Pagans to me, although Republics are similarly viable.

They've repeatedly said that the Pope will more than likely never be playable, and those who've gotten to be Pope report it impossible to play. You get a massive ton of events for people requesting pardons, excommunications, etc. As the Pope, you have to deal with it. That's not to say we won't get upgraded Papal mechanics and a church based DLC, but we won't be playing as the Vicar of God..

Impossible to play as the world's puppeteer.

Pope therefore wouldn't and shouldn't be played.

Paradox hat say, they want to make all playable... without the pope. So it wouldn't never happen.

How would Pagans become actually different from Christians and Muslims? What kind of mechanics would make them unique and fun? I would rather first see a more fleshed out Catholic church than Pagans.

Also: still too many Muslims & Christians I need to play before even more characters become available.

The same way Muslims were made different from Christians with SoI. Lots of people said it couldn't or shouldn't be done and it turned out great (with some reservations about the decadence system, but idk). They could make it several DLCs or one big DLC that costs $20 or something, the possibilities are big so Paradox is really the one who will decide how much they're going to do. I'd like to see the Catholic church improved too, but since a) they're already playable and b) the whole game was designed to represent them with others somewhat shoehorned in I'd like to see the other groups get a little bit of work (and make them playable and survivable) before what is basically the "core" gameplay gets renovated.
