i just started a game with idyllic bloom and got what would normally be one of my favourite precursors, the grunur. should i remove idyllic bloom as soon as possible? is there some way i can make the two enhance each other?

Idyllic Bloom only works on planets that match your founding species planetary preference - if you start on a Desert world, you can only convert Desert worlds to Gaia via Idyllic Bloom. Baol can be used on all the other planets you'll have.

Considering the above I'd suggest you keep Idyllic Bloom for a while and use seeders to transform your capital and other planets of your primary habitability type while using the Grunur relic for other planets. That way you get to transform all your planets into Gaia worlds faster than you could with one of the methods alone.

Though once you research Galactic Administration and you reform anyway to make use of the new civic point it would probably be wise to swap out Idyllic Bloom for something else too. Environmentalist would probably be a good match for the flavor you're going for if you don't have it yet (and it'll help you run your favorit living standard ;)).

swap out Idyllic Bloom for something else.
You can't. Like Inwards Perfection or Fanatic Purifier, you choose this civic on empire creation and are locked into it.
With Idyllic Bloom not being dependent on ethics, the only way to get rid of it I can think of is having a Chosen One fire the 'A Divine Souvereign' event.

My bad, didn't realize it was a locked civic. Well, another method would be to have an AI target you with a liberation war and surrender but that's unreliable and probably undesirable too. Oh well, I guess the OP will simply be stuck with having two methods for converting planets to Gaias.

I do like the pop growth bonus of the building.

Idyllic Blom requires the planet to be your primary species starting preferred climates. So if you picked desert at empire creating you need to terraform other planet types into deserts before you can bloom them up.
However Gaia Seeders cost only energy, gasses and time (and need planetary administration), so you can rather easily gaiaform these planets between normal economic building projects.

The Last Baol has a cooldown of 10 years and costs 150 influence, which might be needed for other things. but is immediate and gives you a few Nu-Baol pops.

There no reason to not use them together, e4specially as the Last Baol can only transforma limited number of planets.

The onyl way to get rid of idyllic Bloom that I think is still in the game is to ascend psionically and once you get a Chosen One accept the event that reforms your empire and makes them the God-Emperor. That should still completely rewrite your civics and you can then reform out of that.
