It seems AI is doing almost absolutely nothing after Germany starts winning in Russia... I played few games and each time i was some medium minor trying to change history (I always try to play weaker side to see effects of my actions, so that leaves me to Axis). Anyway, i managed to win few times and each time game was simply broken around 1942-44... Americans never tried to land in Europe, AI is doing nothing on both sides. lots of territories are there to grab, but it's not doing anything

I even ran 2 games today in observe mode and it happened twice. I do use bonuses for axis to make sure they have chance to win, but it seems if they start winning, even though USA is at war, it never fights. same for other countries... and Nazis are no better - they stop in the middle of Russia and then stop any attacks, standing there until end of game. Game seems fun until 1941 or so. I didn't have such problems in HOI2/Darkest Hour/etc. , AI was much more aggressive there.

anyone having similar issues? I think i will simulate 0 bonuses game to check, but i assume it will work fine, it's just when Axis start winnning, AI is completely lost...

yeah that was always the case. ai cant handle global wars. ai germany handeling the gigantic front from finnland to the black sea is derpy enough. most times i remember seeing big advances or retreats there is when one side decideds to abandon the front to handle a secondary front that just emerged from a random invasion or a minor joining the war and opening up a new front. in singleplayer its pointless to play any other nations than germany.

The AI is broken when using observe mode, you have to use the `human_ai` command (so that the AI will continue playing whatever country you're using) and tag switch whenever you want to see how another country is doing.

i was playing normal games and the same thing happened, but of course thank you for your remark, i will try it next time i test

I recently read this:
1950 is after the date that the game AI turns off ... are you using a mod to extend that? If so, you'll need to contact the author of that mod.

But then again I remember that I once played for way longer than that and the AI was still doing stuff. However, I'm not really sure if I understand AndrewT's post correctly though. (Which is why I created this thread a couple of hours ago.) Also note that he wrote that in quite a different context.

In my opinion this game has no real AI, just events that start war and pre-defined attack orders. I ran 5 games today in human_ai mode, watched them from time to time (ran in background of course) and all were somewhat broken. I used no mods. what i mean by broken? I mean lots of units all over the place sitting in one place, doing nothing already in 1942 (not defending anything). countries that fight with each other, that do absolutely nothing. 50+ divisions sitting in one place and not doing any attacks. Land that is easy to grab by units, yet unit just stands on the border and does nothing. in all 5 games it happened. For both Axis and Allies. in my opinion AI is completely broken and i've played enough PI games to notice that. HOI games were always heavly-scripted, but what is happening in HOI4 is just terrible. We need many more patches and paid expansion packs to get back to normal situation I'm afraid :(

P.S. just when i posted it i realized there are 1.4.2 patch notes containing lots of 'AI' words, patch was released (in beta form) few hours ago :) I will test on 1.4.2 again :)
