I would really like a map mode which shows the ideology of countries, whether that be with colour or words.

The reason this would be helpful is when creating your own faction it's nice to know who could/would join. It would also be helpful for seeing which nations might join an enemy faction (which is of course made more likely if they're the same ideology.)

Just an idea,
Thanks for reading.

Hearts of Iron IV lacks many map modes it has in Europa Universalis, Crusader Kings and previous HOI games. Devs are trying to make game more plain and simple for new players and I approve this simplification. Nonetheless it would be great to have an opportunity playing game with mods such as various map modes.

I agree that the devs are trying to simplify the game, and I think this is a good step, especially considering the difficulty i've had introducing my friends to other PDX games like EU4.
However I think this map mode is a pretty simple addition which, in my opinion, new players would expect to have.

They removed map modes just like in Stellaris. Map modes are suppose to make things EASIER.

Yes and no. Good consolidated map modes, yes. Too many can be a pain in the ass as much as not enough. CKII can be a bit excessive when trying to figure out alliances and religions and cultures and relations and so on and so forth.

All I'm saying here is that I think this 1 extra map mode should be implemented. Whether there should be a lot of mapmodes or fewer, whether they make the game easier or harder, or whether they're beneficial or not isn't exactly relevant :p .

In general I think an Ideology map mode would make the Factions and Ideology system more accessible and would provide a much easier way for new players and old to find out which nations are likely to become involved in wars and which would join a faction.

There is no down side to more options. Just dont used it if you dont like it, and plenty of other people like me do.

I'm not saying options aren't good. There is a downside to options that increase workload. A good mapmode will present all aspects of related values in an easy to understand format. They will provide information, not data.

Multiple layers that simply present data that have to be switched through and manually synthesized into information are a waste of coding time. I'd rather they spend limited UI coding time to give us quality mapmodes and not just spam them out

How would adding a new mapmode increase workload? At this current time the game is playable without the mapmode, so by adding it in there wouldn't be a requirement to use it other than for convenience.
If you're suggesting it would be easier to integrate it into an already present mapmode etc. then I'd agree, however.
