Or "How do I get the party I want to win an election?"

My big question is this: How much does ideology influence elections?

Is it more important than issues?

Will a liberal POP whose issues are the same as the conservative party's issues vote liberal or conservative?

It depends.

If its CON is low it will generally vote for the ruling party even if ideology and issues don't match.

If it has a high CON a POP will look more at the ideology and/or issues of a party. Before the Populism vs Establishment invention a POP will vote mainly on ideology, after that invention if you have chosen populism it will vote on issues.

And remember POPs in colonis also vote making it hard for some countries to get conservatives out of power.

Thanks!

I'm actually trying to get the conservatives back!

I'm playing Sweden and at one time I had two liberal parties. I managed to split the votes between them and came close to getting the conservatives back in power, but then the liberals seemed to merge and now have a 2-1 majority in the latest polls

If you're not democratic, just force-set them into power :)

I could, but I want them to win fair and square (and have the polulation behind them).

Aren't there a few negative conseqences from forcing someone into power?

The political behaviour of POPs have been discussed and researched a lot in a previous thread here, try to sarch of it. IIRC, it was called something like 'the political education of POPs'.

BTW, I am about to start working on that thread again, so if Sabre Man or anyone else has questions that they want to post there or in this one, we'll see what can be determined. I know that Raph had a couple of ideas that should be looked at further. Are there others?

Cool. The conclusions ought to be put in WikiVicky, if they're not already there.
