So recently I researched ideological thought, and noticed that all the inventions I were getting were for conservative only. So I looked in the techtionary and found out that lots of the inventions only trigger based on the current governments ideology. Looking down the list I noticed that lots of them (atheism, social justice, egalitarianism etc.), trigger for socialist government only. Does anyone know if these will trigger for a communist ruled country as well? I kind of intend to permit a communist revolution, which is why I'm interested. It would be odd if communist ideology governments don't get atheism, social justice, etc. and yet socialist ones do. Thanks for any input, adios.

I don't know the answer to your question, but Market Structure is another tech that's a little tricky. I avoid it untill I have the rudiments of my entire industrial economy laid out because Oligopoly or Monopoly makes things like Machine Parts or Steamer Shipyards crazy-expensive to build. Once I've got the tertiary factories built, then I'll do it.

I've noticed the AI is wise to this. It doesn't like that tech at all - I was swinging some deal with an AI nation and was trying to get the success chance up a little higher with a couple techs. It was around 60% and I threw in Market Structure and the chances of it accepting dropped to 0% ^_^

I tried forcing a revolution (typed event 23100) and just running it for a couple months. Didn't get egalitarianism or anything like that, but maybe I just didn't go long enough. Anyone have any idea if these "socialist" inventions work for communist? It is only logical, but I'm not sure that counts for anything.

I would think so, but I don't know for sure. Bear in mind inventions have a start date so if you research a tech too early the invention may not trigger for a long time.

I sense there might be a bit of a bug going on. Those that are for conservatives should be also for reactionary, liberals also to anarcho-liberals and socialists to communists as well. Is it certain that they never appear to the three more extremist government forms?

Its not for sure, but I checked the invention event list and the events are possible from the very beginning of the game, so its not a too early tech research problem. Also, in the code it says government = socialist... and there is a different listing for communist so I'm thinking that it actually does not work for these greater extremes, but perhaps I'm just missing something. I tried running a game as Austria in 1861, they had ideological thought and checking their events list none of them had fired. I forced a communist coup and ran the game on extremely fast for 3 years, no socialist ideology inventions. Once again though, maybe I'm missing something. I suppose I can always manually trigger the events, or change the event code. Does any one know how I would format it if I wanted it for government socialist AND communist? Right now it reads as such:

event = {
id = 443
random = no
invention = yes

trigger = {
technology = 4302
government = { type = socialist }
}

name = "EVT_443_NAME"
desc = "EVT_443_DESC"
style = 0

date = { day = 9 month = january year = 1836 }
offset = 58
deathdate = { day = 30 month = december year = 1920 }

action_a = {
name = "OK" # Excellent!
command = { type = plurality value = 5 }
command = { type = pop_consciousness which = soldiers value = 1 }
command = { type = pop_consciousness which = farmers value = 1 }
command = { type = pop_consciousness which = labourers value = 1 }
command = { type = pop_ideology which = 5 value = socialist }
}
}

Any ideas? Thanks for the replies I've gotten already.

The trigger is what need to be looked at. Methinks this is what you might be looking for:
Code:
	trigger = {
		 technology = 4302
                 OR = {
            		government = { type = socialist }
            		government = { type = communist }
                 }
	}
Hope this works/helps; haven't tested it myself.

Damn you! It took some time as I had to actually learn the stuff first from existing events before posting. So in a way you cheated :p
Hehe, actually, I didn't; had to go looking in event-files myself to be sure I got it right ;)

Anyway; when two such great minds reach the same conclusion independently of eachother, we must be on the right track :D

Unfortunately, I just tested it and got alot of event errors, so sadly its not working. Sigh, any other ideas?

:rofl: :rofl:

government = { type = communist}

Should be correct, I'm too lazy to test.

I reported this as a bug anyway as the event triggers clearly say these won't happen to reactionary, anarcho-liberal or communists. Let's wait and see if things change in pathces.

EDIT bug nr 2787 if it matters to Derek
