This was one of my favorite features of the Master of Orion series especially the remake (I just love how the different alien leaders actually interact with you right down to when you make deals with their enemies that they'll tell you that they're not happy with that or that they even tell you to help them fight their rivals or else!) was the idea of an ancient precursor race coming back and they're really ticked off so much that they plan on conquering the galaxy since they were imprisoned by another precursor race (who are now long dead).
I know that we have the Fallen Empires and we also have the precursor stories (which by the way I finished the Cybrex story! I loved it!), but still it was a cool concept.
Now I love both Stellaris and the Master of Orion series (the third one had some cool stuff in it but I like the first two and the remake out of the four games in the series), but I think both games have a lot of potential to learn and be inspired by the other one.
