I thought that "everybody" knew that the Spanish did not conquer the Azteks, they only exploited an opportunity available to them at the time: Most other native tribes/peoples were in opposition to the dominating Azteks and it was them that brought them down, not a score of Spanish wielding guns that took 20 minutes to load.
