So I had an idea on how you could make the ERE throne fall in the hands of powerful lords rather then behaving like monarchies in Western Europe. What could be done is that if the current emperor is weak (I.E low prestige) or a child, then a random event fires giving 5 Douxs with the highest prestige a strong claim on the throne. The problem is I don't know how to write such a chain the only P-Dox event script I know very well is HoI2/DH does CK2 have similiar script to those games?

I don't see how that would really make it more historic. That sounds like a poor man's version of decadence, the ERE is locked in constant civil war as it is.

Try CK+ mod out. It has a great faction system that represented really well the land magnate class, the civil servant class and the religious class that the emperor had to deal with in reality. In the game, if one of those factions get upset, they will rebel to depose the current emperor. If Wiz (the author of the mod) could somehow replace the current depose CB and make the faction leader the new emperor, it would very much fit into what OP wants.

The Muslims honestly don't need anymore help when it comes to conquering Byzantium with minimal effort. Really!

Indeed. Vanilla has pushed things too far in the other direction. Now its Fatimid instability that needs to be modeled into the game as a matter of urgency. I hope the next patch at least triples their starting decadence or something, and even then, that'd still be generous given the state they were in historically.

Byzantium is fine, in fact, perhaps too unstable as it is in AI hands.

My current game, Byzantium has been walked over by the Fatimids, right up to the Polish border. However, my last game as a doux in Greece saw me gain a load of territory which subsequently caused a civil war and my character wiped out and I ended up far away as a count in southern Italy. How is that for dynamic gameplay?

It isn't this title or that title.

It's the empire title as a whole that needs work. When an empire starts blobbing it rarely stops. I quit the last game when the HRE had Norway, most of england, and southern France by 1150.

God damn it if want making ERE, history have co-emperor, palace Coup, scheme Eunuch get the people backing of Queen of Cities.

Is there a version that doesn't remove many of the titles?

I would want that Byzantine duchies would be permanently locked in their de-jure borders to simulate the Theme system. Vassals could still expand for the sake of gameplay though.

More uprisings too. Even a talented emperor should have to fight 4-6 rebellions in his time. However these shouldn't be ordinary civil wars but rather a pretender with or without land getting a spawn army which the Emperor must defeat. If the rebel captures Constantinople he would instantly win the war. Most themes should stay loyal to the Emperor and the rebel shouldn't be able to request help from other vassals.

We also already got a byzantine DLC, and I will not buy ANOTHER byzantine DLC with stuff that SHOULD have been in LoR but never was included

Noone said anything about a DLC. Tweaks like this is what patches are for.

Whether this is a good idea or not i have no opinion of. Though I do agree that the byzantines is a bit too feudal.

No it doesn´t, it depends hugely on what kind of emperor it has. Same as any kingdom, really. In my Athens game, from third emperor onwards they had huge diplo stats and had no trouble expanding, and in places I didn´t intervene (I expanded to become king of Siciliy so far and they went for Croatia, and north and east).

And yes fatimids are a pain and in 1068 they DOWed ERE for Greece - had to reload once Empire lost, but they won the next time and it´s a smooth sail ever since.

I only play vanilla, and i noticed that ERE tends to do really well, or just get completely destroyed straight off. The problem with the game it simply cannot model a slow decline of any sorts. Its always either dramatic success or defeat for the Emire, but the same situation can be applied to Spain, where all seems to be settled in first 40 years. Anyway i dont mind fatimids, its the HRE that i cannot stand, and i spent most of my games tryin to weaken that abomination

Ok I have a new idea, I noticed that under Elective Law any duke level noble can start a faction to put himself on the throne if a way to do this to the ERE under any law could be done it would go a long way to help create more chaos.

The Muslims honestly don't need anymore help when it comes to conquering Byzantium with minimal effort. Really!
Maybe in the coups, the land stays the same size so Muslims can't just invade the smaller lands all the time. Or at least give some kind of awareness system to the ai, so that they will accept the ultimatum more peacefully if they know Muslims will just get a head start on the invasion. A manpower system would also be nice, so that while Hungary is huge it can't match Byzantium in population, allowing smaller countries to field more levies, (ex: Christian Iberia) and for larger countries to get less if their population is small. (ex: Norway)
