I went Timurids -> Mughals, just puched the button to convert. I took Administrative ideas first, now I know the world is my oyster and I can win even if I pick Naval, but I'm lazy and I want to be efficient. I'm thinking on of Humanist, Religious, Influence, Diplomatic or Quantity next, with another of those third. Help me pick!

You can't pick 3 admin ideas in a row. Get Influence next if you intend to heavily conquer. Then Humanist or Religious (you don't need both). The rest is mostly taste if you're on a world conquest.

Diplomatic is nice because of the bonus relationship, bonus diplomat, and minus war score cost. But also dig into Offensive (for the siege ability, discipline, and better generals), Defensive (to save ducats and manpower from attrition), and Quality (to save manpower).

IMO quantity sucks until very late game, and even then it's totally overkill to the point of being useless if you're doing a WC - it'll feel like shooting a mouse with an oversized caliber unless you're going way too slow.

Quantity is king in WC dunno what this guy is talking about.

Dunno who cares about manpower, you go double available mercs + FL bonuses and just spam merc people to death.

Quantity is also the best for stackwiping if you care to do a bit of math and micro. In most stackwipe scenarios you need a 2:1 army size lead to get the wipe so you really need to pile in the guys.

For unrestricted ideas iron man going adm religious humanist influence diplomatic is fine.

For restricted probably adm inf religious diplo humanist. Never go diplo before influence if going humanist first though, you will get killed by unjustified demands.

Basically if you have a tolerance heathen idea or are Sunni or Christian you can safely go religious before humanist. If not, you either only conquer TC land before humanist is operational or you go humanist first.

With new absolutism tech I will unveil we can max absolutism on day 1 without mass lowering autonomy so this single trick alone means that humanist later than 4 is not crippling.

your better off with Quality or Offensive
If you are just looking for the blob then going Aristocratic might give you a better return then either of those two.
I used to go Quantity within the first 3 ideas, while i was still worse at the game. It just eases the manpower and the money situation alot.

Once you start playing the mechanics more than the game there is simply no place for anything that is not Admin, Influence, Humanist and/or Religious for the first 4-5 groups.

I can understand Quantity for the extra mercs, Offensive for the siege bonus and Aristocratic for leader siege and admin policy, it all depends on the situation and preference..would not pick any of those within the first 4 or 5 ideas though

Quality and Defensive are complete garbage in world conquest

This guy knows.

I would also add exploration if you are in an isolated Asian start and cannot move your capital to Europe in a timely manner. Obviously Oceania is an inferior capital location but its miles better than Asian.

This leaves your viable first 4 picks from the following:

Administrative
Influence
Religious
Humanist
Diplomatic
Exploration

You would think there's not much diversity here but there's actually a good deal of thought in picking the right order.

Quantity is best used by someone who is small and needs the extra troops early and fast. As Mughals, that isn't you.

Since Mughals have strong heathen tolerance and religious unity, you may prefer Religious to Humanist. If you decide to form Yuan as the Mughals, I'd go with Humanist instead.

Influence is always a great pick, but vassal feeding isn't as big of a deal since your coring costs will be incredibly low, between Admin ideas, your traditions and then admin efficiency later on. Diplomatic might work better. Since you are in Asia, I'd recommend making a few of the colonizers like Ternate or Brunei or someone a vassal so they can colonize all that land in the Phillipines and so forth for you.

Defensive, Offensive, and Quality are all roughly equally strong, in my experience.

My first five idea picks would be, in order, Admin, Diplomatic, Offensive, Religious, Quality,

Because once you conquer India you are swimming in cash and to maintain a 200k army you need quantity if you want to fight Ming

Ming is fought somewhere at the end once you have acces to an 800k army even without Quantity.

No one, and i mean NO one, needs anything close to 4 military ideas for anything other that stackwiping memes.
In MP sure, because everyone does it, but in SP, one Ideagroup is already hard to justify, 2 is a waste of a slot.
While you could go with the old saying "There is no kill like overkill" there is only so hard you need to win wars.

True but then at that level what idea is useful.
Having more diplomatic relations is that you are called into more wars.
Apart from the Ottomans you don't need any other ally.
