One of the things I noticed is that outside of sale time, games like Stellaris are only topping the charts when new DLC come out. What I think is happening is a lack of engagement. Players play the new content, grow bored, and come back a DLC or two later.

What Paradox should do is release a brand new quest (event occurring on a survey mission etc.) every week. This would allow for regular engagement with players as the game continually expands. This would also help expand the games re-playablity as there would always be new quests being added to mix things up.

I'm all for regular updates, even minor stuff, but I don't think a new anomaly per week will keep people playing more than they otherwise would. Anomalies are pretty simple and are done with in a few minutes at most. It's changes to the core mechanics, which naturally are saved for the bigger updates, that keep people coming back and playing longer.
