I know Johan read the Wheel of Time series at least at some point (Demandred?), so maybe he'll understand this. A few months beofre the release of the last book, the prologue was realised on online to be downloaded for a price. What about a similar strategy for HOI2? Make the map available for download once it is nearly finalized. This will a) make money for Paradox and b) allow a larger community to critique province names before release. Maybe give them an NDA and a seperate forum for this? I'm sure there are plenty of people who would be willing to pay to drool over the map. This also increases exposure to reviewers. What do you think?

I would think the private forum and NDA would work against the main premise of creating some good buzz about the game. How are you going to create the good word of mouth when you won't be able to talk about it because of the NDA?

Though it sure would be nice to be able to see more of the game than you could in a simple screenshot.

I'm not sure enough people would be willing to pay for the privilege of seeing the map to justify the time and effort (not to mention the expense) of putting the map in downloadable form.

I mean, I'm waiting about as eagerly as anyone, but I don't think I'd pay for just the map.

I wouldn´t buy only the map, but I´d love to see a print version of the provinces map either for free as a bonus in the box of the game or awarded in a contest. Now that´d be cool.

Yeah, EU2 IIRC had a great poster map which was included with the game... that kind of stuff really makes me happy!

Also, I'm sure the map is already more or less final, and closer to the release no changes will be considered - at least that's the way things have been in the past that I can see.

Building on that Idea

Why not just offer the Beta for something like $10.00 USD (close to 10 Euros)? You'd get some extra money (probably breakeven though) and have a stream of bug reports from extra "sorta Beta testers."

Only thing is that it would be hard to implement a NDA with it, but I suppose does it really matter? The other thing is people might get upset about its half-baked condition, but if you're hard core enough to buy a beta, then you should be willing to accept that... as long as you can get updates, maybe every couple weeks. In any case, its probably not worth the effort, but based on the number of ppl that signed up to do Beta testing for HOI2, there just might be enough interest.

Why do people always assume that Paradox are borderline broke?

I don't. THis is intended as the opposite, that more people want to see the map to solve problems pre release
