Idea for playing with Great Britain and conquering like hell (if possible)

Hey everyone,

I just had an idea but I'm not sure if it's actually possible.

It would go something like this when playing great britain:

-Go in debt getting a big army to PU france at the start (hard thing to do, and could even be optional)

-Crush and ASAP vassalize portugal/castille when they are small enough. Now this would lead to them
colonizing america for you.

My only question is:
What the hell happens to your vassal's colonial nations? Are they your subject as well? can you annex them? Will they be independent?

I've been thinking about this but can't find the answer anywhere :p

Anyways, that's my idea, hope it's possible!

Yeah and my idea is to also get castille/aragon/spain as vassal when they're small enough, sell them back as much as spanish uncored lands and let them colonize for me as well. So I can just focus on getting asia/africa/europe.

But if I diplo-annex portugal/spain/castille/aragon, what will happen to their colonial subjects? Will they become independent or will I inherit them as well?

You might pick some good moves from this AAR by Eugene : English world conquest.

Regarding colonial nations: They are your subject and cannot be annexed, but if you raise their tariffs too high, they will try to revolt and form an independent nation at some point.

Finally if you annex vassals that have colonial nations, this will form independent nations. However, if you wait until 1.5, colonial nations will be added to your subjects instead.

Yeah, subject's colonial nations do not transfer when you annex them: See the Castille-Brazil fiasco.

The flip side of conquering in 1.4 instead of waiting is super-horde protectorates. They're fantastic.

As for colonial nations, if you annex all the natives, your colonials will sit around playing nice with each other, doing not much. Keep the tariffs low enough and they'll never be a problem.

This is probably impossible now with 1.5's AE changes, but after I PUed France, I decided to conquer all of the colonizers, which would be Castile, Aragon, Portugal, the Dutch countries, and Norway. Norway is a bit outside what I wanted my borders to be, but it actually gives me a monopoly in the North Sea trade node, so it's not too bad.

So I have to race against the clock to colonize and conquer as much as possible. I have the reduced coring cost from Admin ideas, but my current king is 0 ADM, and the heir is only 1. 601 day travel times for inland colonies are still there, and the AE changes will make conquering the rest of Burgundy (as I hoped) and possibly the Asian countries harder.

But it seems that the patch that is already out changed it. Or did I misunderstand it?
- Annexing or integrating another country now makes you take over all their dependencies as well.

They're still being colonized. Once they get 1000 people, they get transferred to Twenty One Colonies.
Oh I see what you did there: ;)
  1. Maine
  2. New Hampshire
  3. Vermont
  4. Connecticut
  5. Rhode Island
  6. Massachusetts
  7. New York
  8. Pennsylvannia

  18. Alabama
  19. Tennessee
  20. Ohio
  21. West Virginia? This one I hesitate, without a Civil War, they wouldn't break out of Virginia, would they?

But it seems that the patch that is already out changed it. Or did I misunderstand it?
Eugene posted 2 minutes before the official announcement of patch 1.5. ;)

Yeah, I included WV. I guess Twenty Colonies would have been more elegant. Oh well.
Guess what my other colonies are called!
Well when you put British and elegance in the same post (which you didn't but you meant it, don't deny!) my French blood boils. :p
Anyway, I can see a non-elegant British Brazil in Brazil. A British Guiana in Guiana, how inventive ;).
Some kind of British New Something in Mexico.
A trollish British Falklands in Argentina, very cool ;)
I'm guessing a British Canada and not a British Louisiana.

Don't really know about the others. :)

Yep, my colonies are British Canada, Twenty One Colonies, British New France (Louisiana), British New Spain (Mexico), British Caribbean, British Guiana, British Colombia, British Titicaca, British Brazil, and British Falklands. Alaska will be British Columbia (not to be confused with British Colombia). I'm not sure what I'll call the Californian one.

It seems I missed 1.5 being out already.

Calvinhobbeslik, you're on a pretty good course. It might be time to start surfing the waves of over-extension, though.

Yeah. I need to get a few more ADM points out of my 0 ADM king before I conquer things though...

They do now, in 1.5.

However, vassalising a nation loses all its subjects. So you need to vassalise POR/SPA/whoever before they have CNs, not after. I think that's what the OP has planned anyway.
