Just checked this video and on it was a map with divisions showing and flowing, and on it one can see their size and that they get smaller due losses.
Could that same be put on next HoI?
41:50

video removed - Had a dad

it could go something like this:

when div is at full strengh, it has full area coverage size, big square, which can be dragged as a narrow long line of shorter and thicker one, or a really deep one depending if defencive or attacking stance..

and on map, one could select many divs, set parametres to them, them drag a line on map and it forms a front, or just a line where units are set on, depending on stance. This way, could single division cover deep or wide area, depending on the need.

each div line, should also have lets say, 10 little squares in it, depending on its strenght as how many front line battallions/brigades it has, each represending one of them. So, div would have internal strengh as well shown on map, and it could be split in two if attacked fast and furiously and line is too weak to hold.
There also could be shown also support brigades, and they would have also their strengght and org shown directly on map when zoomed in, without need of clickin the div.

That would allow really fast and easy way to observe and understand the situation on front and it would also kinda, put provinces off from combat role. Provinces could be another layer there, as now, they are directly tied to troops.

This is just a though of 5 mins after i looked that that vid so i wanted bring it up for folks to think. Game would run kinda like on that map, on battle screen.

i hope someone could/would make a wargame like that :)

it doesnt matter if hoi4 isnt out yet.
This system would allow attacks inside province and keep foothold in there if divisions entered in there are still there. This way, lets say, attacking mountain region, and successfull attack would gain area in the mountains, from the plains, and then, it would be harder, to push attacker back with a counterattack as they also would get bonuses from mountain terrain.
no complete retreats of 50km long :p sure it would kinda feel like more micro at first but im pretty sure guys at paradox have skill enough of this kind of game. Its just if there is will to do it :)

There should be a lot of room for improvement in HoI4. As much as some people whine, wail and gnash their teeth about DLC, CK2 and EU4 are both unrecognizable and richer from release.

Specifically pertinent precedent; the combat system of CK2 is incredibly more complex than it was in vanilla. So if (big if) your idea is workable and awesome, there should be no need to wait for HoI5, which may come out in 2021 along with Marvel's Inhumans movie.

I agree that 'combat' in HOI is unrealistic, for a war simulator.
For example, stacking penalties allowing a million-men strong armies to retreat because they didn't roll for a reinforce to join the battle instead of adding 'depth' in battles.
Breakthroughs either happen on a 50km wide front or not at all(when in reality tanks could break a single, narrow point in a province and 'bypass' province defenders without fighting most of them)
But yeah, HOI 4 isn't even out yet, though I am in favour of redesigning the combat system, either by a DLC or HOI 5...

This sounds more like a completely different kind of game. More like War in the East.
