Dunno if generals are going to work the same way as HOI2 but if they're similiar then how about an optional system where their traits are randomized and aren't revealed until they get into combat.

IMO it would make the strategic feel of the game a bit more realistic. You wouldn't know how good your generals are until they've faced the elephant. You can give them random #s of traits as well and I think it's probably best to have it optional because some gamers would find it tedious cycling through generals to find the best trait combos.

Since HOI is based on history I think that the actors (generals) should not be 'randomised', I would hate to see Guderian (the Gerneral who literaly 'wrote the book' on Blitzkrieg) turn out to be a an 'Old Guard'.

Agreed. I think the current system with developing generals is good. Certainly Guderian was good at armoured strategy before 1939. But then I also think we should have random generals added to the list - to avoid running out - which could/should gain random traits.

To be honest, appart from the famous ones I have not bothered to research the skill & trait of every General included in HOI, so I would never know the difference.
But having said that, for those Generals which are historical I think that the traits should be set & not randomised.

I like the traits system in HOI2 DDA, I hope that it will be kept in HOI3.

Yeah, as a big time historical player I wouldn't want the trait system changed unless it was optional for sure. But I think it would add alot of replayability to have a system where they're hidden and random.

I still manage to replay HOI2 over and over again :p

Possibly it should be linked to auto-promote; if you have above a certain number of divisions and less than some number of Maj. Generals the game will 'promote' some new ones. Probably most should be skill 0 but a few with 1 or 2 which would also give the possiblity of a trait.

Why not a system with fewer generals with skill (as historic trait) and a lot of general without.

Using the traits system in HOI2 DDA and expending it to all trait, it would give some randomness to the party (helping general whose nation losing to quickly in history).

But the must would be a moddable trait system, allowing addition/substraction/modification of trait for campaign. only the base of the system must be hardcoded.
