The more I play the more I get annoyed by the way services and it's vehicles work. I get the area of effect and it's influence on the buildings adding service coverage. And I get that it's a tall order to set special rules for each service buildings and the way it's vehicles work because of the engine and memory restraints.

But one way it might be possible to improve on the usefulness of service vehicles would be to combine the tools already in the game. Manly the districts tool.

What I think could work is to have an extra option put into the service building and when you click on it it would open a new overlay that would allow for viewing the already made districts. So you would turn on an death care overview, click on the extra option for districts overlay for death care, start your already existing district tool and then be able to chose which districts should a service vehicle for that specific death care building service with it's vehicles.

You could then have like 10 incinerators at the middle of the city but each would only send out it's vehicles into the districts you chose for it to service. Or you could have clinics around your city but in one spot have 3 hospitals and each one of them would have under is care 5 districts some of which could overlap. So you could have redundancy.

What do you think of this idea?

If you want it unrealistic then this would be awsome, problem would prolly be the traffic issue. Realistically aleast for hospitals etc, they dont actually clog 10 hospital at one spot, the reason is for people to have easy access to travel to them. I am 100% on you with the district thing, as it is annoying having your fire truck crossing the town for a fire, while there is a fire next to the fire building. I have a well planned out industry with 4 fire trucks in them covering everything. For some reason i keep ending up with burned down buildings. District rules would really help on this type of situasjons ofcourse. I love this game, but in Simcity 4 and the little i played on 2013, this was not much of an issue as long as they kept theyre covering range. (My observation ofcourse)

Mostly agree with youngzack. Its not realistic at least for hospitals. I look at my city (Indianapolis), there are 4 big hospitals downtown, though they serve 3 different demographics. There is Methodist (where most people go), Riley Children's Hospital, IU Medical Center, and the VA (veterans) Hospital. Outside of that, the hospitals are all spread out closer to neighboring towns where more people live. There is IU Medical West, North, South, East, spread out over dozens of miles, and many more smaller hospitals generally close to large population areas.

Even more so, most of the hospitals are surrounded for blocks and blocks by medical offices and smaller, private practices. There is really a whole medical industry if you want to get really deep, but I wouldn't suggest that.
