As there have been a lot of complaining about HOI 3... here is my idea...
as it will likely require a new game, consider this for HOI 4,

Since the AI is going to be ALWAYS inferior to any dedicated human (at least in the near future), the idea is to have a "server based" multiplayer game.

of course, the problem with Multiplayer is to find dedicated players...
now, this could be solved as following.

Paradox run a server were people could join games when a slot opens up. For example, a game starts with 5-6 ppl. The Russian player gives up after 2 hours... at that time another player that wants to play Russia may join. (and it could be even someone willing to upgrade from playing some russian ally). If nobody is on the list, the AI will take the role (though luck!) until someone shows up.

This would be a second best from a complete multiplayer game, but the game could be very interesting. Think about how to respond to change of playing style in your opponent. And the challange of turing a badly run country into a well managed one.

This is just an idea, but I guess a lot of people will enjoy to have the option of playing aganist other players on occasional basis.
Paradox would have to hardcode so that players cannot exploit any bug in the game.

They did something like this for CIV 4. People could just come in and take up unoccupied countries and the game would keep going if they dropped. Unworkable with the current AI ( or next 4 AI's for that matter.)

Yes, it worked brilliantly.

A positive side effect is that if someone DC from an arranged game you just pause & wait for them to reconnect instead of going through all the troubles with saves and rehosts.

Another positive effect is that the meta server never is dead, since all ongoing games also are visible (even if not always joinable).

How do you want to sell this to someone like me?
I don't play multiplayer games. For time reasons, but also because of my time consuming style of play (renaming units using pause function often).

Don't play multiplayer?

Most of the time there are rules in MP on how often you may pause, if at all. They do play on reduced speed, though. You would still have to get used to a faster paced style of play... if you want to try it.

The last thing I want is to take over someone's Germany game (or the AI's) in 1939 (assuming a 1936 start) and spend the next 6 hours reorganizing all of my brigades, unit commanders, fleets, policies, and technology. :)
