I am unsatisfied with the Byzantine mods out for Hearts of Iron, no disrespect meant to the creators of them.

I picture a Byzantium that does not own all of Asia Minor, the Turks wouldn't be easier conquered or dispersed so I imagine them owning the East.

byzant36.jpg

Black is the Byzantine Empire, Green is the Turkish State, I expanded Albania due to a fake historical incident I made up to where the Serbs were trying to expand into the Empire's realm so the Byzantines and the Albanians fought them back and Albania was awarded with that bit of land. Their is no Yugoslavia and the Serbs and Albanians are backed by the Byzantine Empire. Sort of an Orthodox alliance. The Bulgarians are Orthodox also but they are still hungry for land in the Byzantine Empire.

The Turks were beat back in the Battle of Manzikert but still gained a decent amount of land in the future wars. They have no claims on Byzantine lands in this modern day.

I have to go I was planning on finish this up, I will add more later because something just came up.

Thoughts so far anyone?

I am not unsatisfied with the events and the mods themselves, the just visions of how a Byzantium would be in 1936.

What do people think about Turkey and a possible Ottoman(Or Seljuk) Empire that did a historical expansion into the Middle East and Egypt but not Europe?

Would their be a Soviet Union?

Maybe the Austro-Hungarian Empire owned Serbia and WW1 happened with similar circumstances, how would Byzantium be involved? Protector of the Orthodox peoples? Maybe that is why the newly independent Serbia has good relations with Byzantium now?

Germany, Austria-Hungary, and Bulgaria, in WW1 vs. England, France, Byzantium, Russia, and Italy?

I picture a Byzantium that has always had an Emperor who ruled with supreme authority till the mid to late 1800s when a sort of constitutional monarchy was established. Maybe through the depression fascism became popular and achieved power in a similar was to Mussolini?

Albania possibly is a puppet of Byzantium? Albania has a little bit more industry too(just so they can support a small army).

Maybe a bit of hostility towards Italy? Byzantium might be offended at Italy attacking Ethiopia, a fellow Orthodox Christian nation?

Some possible claims on the western part of the Turkish nation due to a Greek population living there? Maybe a future war?

Future war with Bulgaria?

Maybe if you take a real authoritarian path the annexation of Albania.

Possible war with Soviet Union/Russia over the Caucasus region or more?

Maybe a German-Byzantine alliance? Byzantium with the Allies?

I am just throwing out ideas, I would like other people with interest in this to throw some ideas out also and tell me if they don't like some of my ideas. I don't like my own idea on the war with Russia over the Caucasus region.

Yeah but I was also thinking of a WW1 happening with Austrian oppression of Serbia. The Ottomans still had massive Middle Eastern territories and maybe they joined the Central Powers to gain more in Anatolia? Or should I have independent Middle Eastern nations?

if the Byzantines survive, I can't see them just sitting idly back for five hundred years letting the Turks take all their territory. for them to survive there would have to be at least some resurgence, and possibly taking back the middle east at some point.

Have the Byzantines hold all of Anatolia and either have Turkish uprisings because the Turks did peacefully live at least some in Byzantine territory. Or have the Turks be in Iraq Syria, Lebanon or even in Persia.

Maybe Turks have far Eastern Anatolia, Syria, Lebanon, and a part of Iraq?

Without an Ottoman Empire (that conquered the Balkans), Albania wouldn't exist. The area would have remained Christian. So that territory can be given to Serbia or to the Greek Empire.

Armenia would have cores in much of eastern Anatolia. Largely for this reason, I give eastern Anatolia to the Byzantines in my games.

If the Ottomans hadn't conquered Constantinople, the Caliphate would have remained in Baghdad, and although it might well have been abolished, there's no particular reason why it would have been abolished at the end of WWI.

The Anglo-French must have won WWI in this timeline: otherwise the map of Western Europe would have be very different. Since historically they removed the German and Austro-Hungarian Emperors from their thrones, they would presumably have removed the Emperor of a Greek Empire if that had fought against them. So probably the Greek Empire fought on the Anglo-French side.

With an allied Empire to the south, and the ANZAC's able to sail straight through the Bosporus to the aid of Russia with no need for Gallipoli, does the Russian Empire collapse at all? If it does, do the Soviets get (all) the Caucasus, or is the Greek Empire able to seize Armenia and/or Georgia and/or Azerbaijan during the chaos of the revolution (historically these areas were seized by non-Soviet forces) and is it able to hold onto them after the Soviet state stabilizes?

With an allied Greek Empire centered in Constantinople, there would have been no need for the British to support an Arab insurrection against the Turks. (The historic reasons for the Turks to fight on the German side would not have existed: the German railroad to Constantinople would not have mattered to Turkey; and the Turks would not have been buying battleships from the British, the British would not have been seizing those battleships for use in the North Sea, etc.) So presumably none of the consequences of the British/Arab insurrection against the Ottomans: no new country named "Iraq", no Palestinian Mandate, and no French Syria. What would be there instead is completely up to your imagination. In the game I play at home, there is an Arab Caliphate with its capital at Baghdad and many cores, which is the capital of a country that, like Persia, has never been conquered by the Europeans.

Such a Byzantine Empire would have been on good terms with Ethiopia and might well intervene against the Italians on its behalf (giving a Greek-Italian war in 1936, or perhaps no Italian invasion of Ethiopia).

What overseas colonies might such a Greek Empire have? An obvious possibility is Tanzania, which was German until they lost it in WWI and might have been awarded to the Greeks rather than the British in this timeline.

Albania existed before the Turks invaded that area. An Armenia would be neat but I am thinking maybe the Turks settled there along with a little bit of the Middle East also. Their most likely would be no European territories in the Middle East but what do you guys think about Egypt with the Suez or even the creation of the Suez?

lol looks like theres still a monoply on the Byzantine Mod still there is still one so maybe i can revive it a little bit.

The idea of a Suez would probably be non-existent due to the fact the main purpose of finding a route to Asia in 1494 was because of the fall of Constantinople which Spain made its way to America. on a side note do we actually thank the Turks for making the Discovery of America possible lol.

Anyway since the Suez is hardcoded we cant remove it so im sure there probably would of been an Independent Egypt or possibly the Arab Federation since the Arabs took Egypt way before the Turks arrived and Byzantines did have its problems pushing the Arabs back to gain a lot of ground.

So weather this mod is still an idea or in the toilet i might as well add the last input of it.
