I'm used to changing my Children's names to fit me personally but I'm curious to know if anybody could theoretically make a new dynasty In-game. I'm aware that the dynasties are coded in and changing from the game is more or less not possible but theres a huge family tree feature in-game and it goes all the way to the Founder of the dynasty. The family had to start somewhere and being able to create your own seems reasonable. I see it as a simple adding of a decision with requirements and an event using the system that is used when making a custom name for your children and tweaking it from there. I see how that would be hard work doing but I hope its possible.

Aside from that, I wanted to know if you could add features to being the Family Head. It seems like just a title and has no features otherwise. There may be other things that I'm missing but I still think it can be extended. I also hate how you can be in a giant, prestigious Dynasty and the "Too high in line of Succession" can block you from expanding it with Martrienal (SP?) Marriages. I honestly have a hard time with "Wants a better alliance" with marrying off my male children as well, but these are only a little bit of what I have in mind. I'm familiar with Modding EU3 and getting used to CK2 so I'm willing to try and make a mod of these ideas if anyone wants to try with me. And if there's other mod-makers doing this kind of thing, please tell me.

On an un-related note: I do feel a little noobish and informal with this but I really just want to get my point across. Spelling errors and the like, I apologize for. And if I'm missing the knowledge of "This has already been covered in an FAQ" and what-not, please tell me and I apologize for any ignorance.

I also noticed that there's an event for a bastard (I forget if it was of the father or mother) to start a bastard dynasty. I've never truly seen this but It seems that it may work the same way as I proposed.

it seems to me you're talking about "Cadet Branches" well, I doubt it would be possible to Mod, as that stuff is probably hardcoded.

Only reason why I'm saying that is the Devs usually Hardcode things they perhaps plan to do as DLC one day... And one of those "perhaps" or "they could do" DLC is probably Cadet Branches if you read the latest Post Mortem Dev Diary.

So I would just wait till Paradox makes it available as DLC hopefully, as believe me, you're not the only one that wants to see Cadet Branches, so I think it could happen :)

The devs did say in one post that cadet branches were among the things that were cut out for various reasons (with a note that they might add them in if they could)

Well I see that, but until then, it seems like there's something missing. Plus adding events and things sound good as a temporary thing. I also see adding different features along the along the lines of these. Maybe they would get some ideas from a mod like this.

It's not an event, or at least not just an event. If you marry a bastard to a bastard, the child will be of a new dynasty named after the father's first name. (Or mother's, maybe, if it's a matrilineal marriage?)

So, potentially, you could almost have an arbitrary dynasty by making a bastard child, naming them something specific, marrying them to another bastard to turn their custom name into a custom dynasty name, giving land to the resulting child and then loading up as them.

Its hard to get a matrilineal marriage in the first place, but I guess thats sorta what I was thinking.

Though I still want to address the lack of noticable features to being a dynasty head.

Characters' new dynasties are assigned based on the province, such that a bastard line of the House of Jimena at court in Leon will become known as "de Leon" with a new random COA (which can be confusing, because the queen mother's dynasty is called "de Leon"). That is in the event files bastard events and love events and family events IIRC. You could modify that.

The problem is that continuing the game right now is based on dynasty not legitimate descent, so that if you start cadet branches, and your Capets die out, for example, you will lose the game if you start as a younger line known as "de Paris" or something. The same thing happens in the vanilla game if Philippe I and his brother die without issue, and the House of Burgundy takes over. They're all legitimate descendants of Hugh Capet but for gameplay reasons the change of dynasty means you lose.

I'm not saying it's a bad idea, just beyond the game's (current) limits. I like big dynasties, but I know that in northern France cadet lines were more common than where I like to play.

Oh, another thought: how about creating nicknames? You would have to create them beforehand, but it might be a stopgap measure. This was common in Iberian history where you named a ruler (half of whom were named Sancho, Alfonso, or Ramon) as "el de X"--the one from X, either based on his place of birth or his place of death (posthumously of course ;))--so you have Sancho 'el de Peñalén' after the place where his brother threw him off a cliff. His more devoted followers simply called him Sancho the Noble. :) It's similar to Louis d'Outremer the Frankish king. You could make this heritable somehow? Just an idea, but it might help.

So couldnt you just add a decision to create a new dynasty and that dynasty would be named after the province or the main title.

in a way the create courtier do that, but the dynasty will not be linked to yours in any way.

You certainly have a point with the cadet branches and all but I love the nicknames Idea. I thnk I could do that, but I'm still not in the whole large scale modding yet. I could see if I could try something like that. Like an event with a decision or something.
