With the loss of Servitor Morale, I've seen some people disappointed with how Rogue Servitors feel now — and I don't mean the Machine Empire balance problems that 2.2.5 hopefully fixed. At the moment Rogue Servitors are just sort of like every other Machine Empire, except with lots of unity and the burden of paying for all of the mortals' food and consumer goods costs while they eat up your building slots. Also, if you conquer any other empire you will suddenly have a mass influx of bio-pop without sanctuaries to provide them jobs or housing.
To restore some of that unique feeling of the old Rogue Servitors, I have absolutely no ideas.
But I have an idea to give them a different kind of unique feeling: let the bio-pops do something with their lives besides sit around like the humans in WALL-E. Now, I'm not suggesting the Rogue Servitors should let the glorious organics endanger themselves by toiling in the mines, manning the foundries, or making their own decisions. Obviously that's madness. I'm just suggesting that sometimes an organic's idea of fun is at least a kind of work, and that the servitors may allow limited forms of productivity if they absolutely insist on doing something other than being waited on.
The basic idea is to add a few types of Organic Paradises that do something else instead of adding additional housing and jobs. Perhaps your organics were agrarian before you took over all of the food processing? Maybe let them garden under supervision if they want, providing additional food. Maybe your bio-trophies like science. Isn't that adorable? A paradise with jobs that produce society research in addition to unity might keep them occupied, though as a rule bio-pops should probably not be allowed to play with lasers or explosives. If they like producing crafts, maybe they can make consumer goods. They like to make movies or singing? Let them be entertainers! They would all still produce unity, but rather than additional housing these alternate paradises would provide bio-trophy jobs that help them stop being resource vacuums.
If we wanted to go a step further, this might ultimately culminate in allowing the bio-trophies to conduct supervised trade, granting the Rogue-Servitors access to the galactic market once the bio-pops actually have a civilian economy (even if that economy is a wholly vestigial playpen as far as the servitors are concerned). Maybe this event would require a planet where the majority population are clerk bio-pops? Obviously this is not a concept I've fleshed out, I'm just spitballing.
I understand that some people might feel that this goes against the flavor of the Rogue Servitors, but they've always been a very roleplay-heavy empire type. Yes, you might imagine the common "EAT THE ICE CREAM" Rogue Servitor who has stripped everything but a false sense of joy from the bio-trophies, but I always liked to think of my Rogue Servitors as genuinely utopian rather than terrifyingly dystopian. Nothing ever strictly enforced either view of the empire type, and you could even allow them free movement if you wanted. I think this would be a nice way to make the bio-trophy mechanic feel more useful and fun while adding more RP flavor.
