During my last game, I was in for a nice competition with the duke of Bourdeaux for my coming inheritance. I had elective law and I was of the Flanders dynasty (king of Portugal and France), and the Bourdeaux duke was from the Capet dynasty IIRC. The duke of Bourdeaux held 2 duke titles, but had many vassals!
My son - the duke of Braganza didn't succeed in getting first place in the line of heirs. He had more titles (about 4 duke titles), but only half of the amount of vassals compared to the duke of Bourdeaux.
I tried everything, I tried to kill that duke, but I failed. Eventually I succeeded in declaring war on his vassals - I took their title and gave them to the duke of Anjou - which mas a brilliant strategist and allways willing to shed blood for me.
To make a long story short - the competition for heirs during elective law is really great. It should be emphasised more imho - with events tied down to intrigue - your own intrigue and your vassals intrigue.
Now wouldn't it be more fun to have your dukes be more competitive in snatching vassals from one another. I've heared the stories of vassal-vassal wars, but that doesn't bother me much. There could be events that change the balance with your dukes without having a major internal war!
Basicly I let the duke of Anjou do the dirty work and let him grow stronger while the duke of Bourdeaux became weaker and finally my son - duke of Braganza surpassed the duke of Bourdeaux.
Some nice events could be modeled to simulate this competition and - in my eyes - the most dangerous part of elective law.
Elective law has more potential to get more fun out of it - but I would spare the forum from specific proposals, others have more insight in this.
