Talking about creatable kingdoms... that doesn't mean, in a given scenario start, a king of Portugal can be a king with just two or three provinces as a realm (just like Navarra, there's a king in the game, only you can't recreate the kingdom if it disappears). It was decided that at least six provinces is the minimum to make a kingdom creatable... so there's no Algarve (which wasn't really a kingdom, actually, but rather a title the king gave himself trying to gain some prestige, just like many others castillian kings used), there's no Granada... and there's no Navarra (so sad)

Well, if the english king may be King of England and Wales, why can't the Portuguese king be actually King of Portugal and Algarve? I really don't understand your point.

About that Duero thingy, i really don't care about the real name, the problem is that the river doesn't pass through Lisbon, it passes through Oporto and the distance between both cities is like 300km, like i said before.

P.S. i really liked the time you guys took to reply to my post, i posted and then some mins when i returned to the thread, i had like 8 new posts!

Can we move off of the kingdoms and come up ideas for the balance of Iberia please? Im thinking, that all christains kingdoms (or duchys) in iberia should have an extra 1000 in there capital provence at start. The christains practically had the muslim tafais in a military vasslage, and the set up we have now is the excact opposite of realistic. Castille for excample, was feared but in this game it has about 2000 less then Toledo...even though castille smashes Toledo in real life not long after game start! Thoghts?

Seems like Granada is pretty much settled then. I'll still strive to make sure that there is easily addable kingdom of Granada for modders.
Right now i'd settle for a setup that would atleast make the 4 provinces of Granada in the NONE category. As to the one that was shortly owned, it would really depend upon how long during CK time period it was.

But i'd still prefer you went and actually released either in the update a seperate loadup for a southern Iberian kingdom, even if its not default.

Actually, the problem is for the AI to handle the situation. For a human player, the setup is now quite realistic: you just have to wait until the muslims start fighting each other... even playing with Aragon or Navarra, it's fairly easy to conquer a few provinces to the taifas.

So I wouldn't touch that thing very much...

Talking about something completely different now: Galicia and duke of Porto in the 1066 scenario. In the other thread we debated how that should be reflected... I think we still didn't have a solution, am I right?

It's true for the player it works fine. But I dont want to HAVE to play in Iberia just to get a realistic result.

Not such a bad idea acctually! It's realistic, in that Im sure christains came to help the spanish christains. And its realistic that the christains had better AND more men then the taifais. This would also keep game balance, once iberia is united (if we increased it like I said iberia might steamroll).

Iberian christians did have some help from european crusaders, specially in 1212, when an actual crusade was called by the Pope... but it wasn't really that crusaders flocked to Iberia for that matter. They were few and they came sporadically... So, no that much of historical evidence to support the idea.

Anyway, I still like it.

You're welcome.

I prefer this idea to any artificial rebalance, because the rebalance will impact the pre-conquer and post-conquest wealth of Iberia.

If we inhibit the muslims, then Iberia won't be worth fighting for and the Christians won't gain enough steam to finish the conquest.

If you inflate the Christians too early, then they'll have the wealth to take on France 100 years before the Reconquista.

First of all, there's a funny thing in the map someone posted a page ago: it supposedly was a Reconquista Map, showing battles connected to the Reconquista. The problem is that the Battle of ALjubarrota, displayed in Portugal, had little or nothing to do with the Reconquista - it was fought between the Portuguese and the Castillian-Leonese, with no Arab intervention at all.

In regards to the "Kingdom of Spain": I quite like the idea, but as someone else said, it would have been impossible for Iberia to be united under one single political entity during most of the CK timeframe. But one thing we do have to account: for long, the name "Spain" meant the same as "Iberia". If you went and asked a 13th century Portuguese if he considered himself Spanish, he would answer positively. Portuguese, Castillians, Leonese and Aragonese all considered themselves Spanish. The problem was when the Kingdom of Castille-León, united with the Crown of Aragon, "stole" the name. But as someone pointed out, Philip II was the first monarch to use the title of King of Spain - and that was after he inherited the Crown of Portugal.
Summarising: during the CK timeframe, "Spain" is to be interepreted as a synonym for Iberia, and may not refer to any political entity (like it does nowadays) but rather to a geographical area.

No need to get rude.

If you look at this post, you can see that the christians in Iberia can win. They have done that without any human interference.

Things will be done when they are done. Atm there is a bit of a lull in actually working the betas, except Phoenix's admirable efforts in Education.

While we're at it, how many test games you've had and did Iberian Christians fall in all of them? Before the big change of allowing Muslims to give land to vassals Iberia was very well balanced and I wouldn't think that it's completely out of whack now.

PS. Bumping threads is forbidden by Forum Rules and rudeness is also very strongly frowned upon. So behave!

Some of us just don't think that as it doesn't happen to them. Yes, maybe the Christians in Spain don't win, but then France takes it all, so the endeffect is quite the same. I see no need for change.
