I would like to see a scandinavian focus tree in the next dlc.

Will be interesting to see in the next DLC what will feature. Probably USSR, normally we have 4 focus trees per DLC so a big Soviet tree could count as two, Poland rework and a generic baltic tree makes four.
Scandinavia would be a great candidate for a country pack I guess or a small DLC introducing weapons buying mechanics. There is a lot of alt history potential with Sweden, but also Denmark and Norway and Finland.
Also three of those countries were part of the war.

I can see the following focus trees packs still coming:
South America I: Argentina, Brazil, columbia, Venezuela
South America II: Chile, Equador, Bolivia, Peru and Paraguay
Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Saudi-Arabia, Afghanistan
East Asia: Siam, Tibet, dutch east India, Philipines, Nepal (actually fought in ww2 16 battalions or so)
Missing countries: Belgium, communist Germany, Ethiopia,
countries too small for a LC: Switzerland, Austria, Albania, Yemen, Oman, Mongolia, Tanu Tuva, Carribean, Latin America rest, Bhutan

I disagree some packages you have proposed, I believe both Albania, Austria and Ethiopia most likely come Italian rework

Escadinavia: Norway, Sweden, Denmark and a small tree for iceland

South America: Argentina, Brazil, a third country that could be Colombia and the rest of the countries, a shared tree in the Chinese warlods style

Middle East: Iran, Iraq, Egypt, introduction of the British French mandates in the Middle East and North Africa with a small shared own tree that could be added Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and states of the Arabian Gulf

Southeast Asia I: British India tree review possible a small tree for British Malay and Burma, Siam and Tibet

Southeast Asia II: French Indochina, Philippines, Indonesia, and Australian and New Zealand tree review

European neutrals: Belgium, Switzerland, Ireland and Czech tree revision

America: revision of the Canadian tree, Cuba, Panama and for the rest of the countries of the region a small shared tree

generics: reworking the generic tree and converting it into generic regional trees shared for the rest of the countries as it happens on road 56

It doesn't really seem to be Paradox's style to make countries that were distinct actual nations from each others have one shared focus tree, besides the one generic one, If the baltic trio gets focus trees, id expect it to be in a smaller country pack like the one launching soon.

We remember that the developers have already done it before in WTT the Chinese countries that have a semi-shared tree component among all of them with a singular part for the main Chinese countries and very likely they will do it again in the Baltic countries, it would fit perfectly in the rework Soviet and Polish and jointly a Finnish own tree

@Rashie even if its not their style theres not much solo things to add to the minors they didnt have a lot of impact. theres no way to play tall with them as they have no industry or manpower. the only logical way to play is rushing nordic league.
like kimi said a shared tree would be similar to chinese with netherland playstyle complating trade to the allies/axis. they all wanted sweden and finlands iron, they wanted naval staginggrounds of norway. swedens modern industry is built on the wealth of wartrading. everyone used swedish steel and bofors AA

No, we haven't seen that done before with countries that were legitimately different nation states from one another, in both de jure and de facto.

The warlords in China, in the later half of the 1930s, while they still wielded nominally a degree of independence, were de jure subordinated to the central government in the KMT.

Let's remember that the Baltic countries had a lot in common in most aspects, therefore, a similar could be applied to the shared tree, similar to the Chinese warlods, and perhaps Lithuania could have a small particular branchespecially for its historical past of its union with Poland

Yes a shared tree in most parts with unique names here and there (some of these countries had plane projects) and some unique focus trees sprinkled on top (economy, foreign policy etc.) I'd say a 80% shared tree.

we can see now with the upcomming dlc there are shared projects in nf where all nations get bonsues to defense and infrastructure in balkans. sort of mp coop paths. that would be interesting. joint östersjön security or minelaying.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Record_years "Sustained by an export boom of automobiles, heavy machinery, electronics, ship-building, and heavy weapons, the per capita income increased by as much as 2,000% " sweden got filthy rich on volvo exports and destroyer productions from the war 2000% industry increase would translate to 10 infrastructure everywehre and 10 free civs in each state from selling recourses
sweden had huge immigration from the balkans filling their factories with workers.
norway just jumped to 50% collaboration for germany producing aluminum for the war effort.

Defense of Finland[edit]
Main article: Sweden and the Winter War
When the Soviet Union attacked Finland in November 1939, many Swedes favored some sort of involvement in the conflict, both on a humanitarian and on a military basis. Sweden's interest in Finland lay in the fact that Finland had been an integrated part of Sweden for more than six hundred years, with Sweden losing control of its eastern provinces in 1809. Despite several pleas from the Finnish government, the Swedish government declined to engage militarily with the Red Army as it advanced during the Winter War. However, Sweden declared itself "non-belligerent" rather than neutral during the conflict and as many as 8,000 Swedes voluntarily went to Finland to fight. The Swedish government and public also sent food, clothing, medicine, weapons and ammunition to aid the Finns during this conflict. This military aid included:[15]

  • 135,402 rifles, 347 machine guns, 450 light machine guns with 50,013,300 rounds of small arms ammunition;
  • 144 field guns, 100 anti-aircraft guns and 92 anti-tank guns with 301,846 shells;
  • 300 naval mines and 500 depth charges;
  • 17 fighter aircraft, 5 light bombers, 1 DC-2 transport aircraft turned into a bomber, and 3 reconnaissance aircraft.

sweden mobilized with exensive concription in 42 and forced women into the lotta battalion sweden had a large lendlease to finland.

  • Possible Allied invasion[edit]
See also: Allied campaign in Norway and Franco-British plans for intervention in the Winter War
rather interesting that uk had plans to invade sweden to steal iron. hitlers incursion into norway was a defensive move

prewar the nsdap had extensive political manipulation of sweden. while on paper the socialist party was democratic sweden was defacto a puppet of germany.

The Rightist Party's (now the Moderate Party) youth league had been impressed by Hitler's successes in Germany, and it decided to adopt paramilitary practices on Hitler's model. The youth league broke with the Rightist Party and formed the SNU (Swedish national youth league), later renamed the National League of Sweden (SNF). Three right-wing politicians who joined the SNF were elected to parliament in 1932. One of these was major Alf Meyerhöffer. All the seats were lost in the 1936 election.
in 1940 the right party had 18% and military youth

You're asking for a Nordic focus tree. Finland is not part of Scandinavia.

If they do make a Scandinavian tree I hope they can model the Norwegian merchant fleet in a better way

Why would Denmark, Norway and Finland be a puppet under Sweden when WW2 fires? It did not happen, and they had no incentive to do so. Why would Sweden puppet Norway, Denmark and Finland?

It would be better if the nickel industry (as mentioned) of Finland was represented.

Moreover a rehaul of resources and supply system. An idea could be that if Norway is under the sphere of the allies, Germany can't trade iron and tungsten from Sweden. If Germany control Norway, then Sweden can only export and import resources with the Axis.

If Finland opts out of the war and Germany lose control of Courland, while the USSR may also be required to take Petsamo and Finnmark, then Sweden may choose tp embargo the Axis and trade with the Allies.

This should give not only the region a more realistic presentation, but also simulate what role Norway (and Sweden) played during the war, and give Germany incentive to hold on to Courland, and USSR incentive to take Courland and drive into Finland and North Norway.

That is semantics. Finland is nevertheless tied in with the other Scandinavian nations.

The Norwegian merchant fleet should be simulated somehow. 1) Give them a very big convoy fleet, as they really had a very big merchant fleet. 2) It could be given to the allies if the allies manage to hold off Norway long enough for their king and gold to escape Norway. If Germany take Norway before the gold and the king escape, then the Germans will get more collaboration and perhaps the merchant fleet. Not 100% accurate, but it will give both sides a big incentive to take Norway fast (as Germany) or hold out just long enough (Allies) along with the Greater resource game.

As a Finn I may be biased but Finland as a minor addition would make most sense if the next DLC is focused around USSR as 'Barbarossa' might lead us to believe. Having played an active role in WW2 participating through three wars (fighting both Soviets and Germany) would certainly give it a good reason alone. Additionally, if they rework another major alongside SU, Italy would be absolutely fantastic to see reworked.

As an addendum, this could also offer the possibility of Norway -- if that was the case, doing Sweden and even possibly Denmark would be ideal but it's starting to be quite a lot of trees and I'd rather have a few good ones than many mixed bags.

@ThaHoward its not a matter of that it happened its that its the most effective way to play. aus-hungary never revived, roman empire wasnt recreated, the british empire federation or francobritish union didnt happen. majority ofthe game is now alt history because half the userbase enjoy carving their own history.
im saying there should be an official more expaned historical path the ai always take of events and 3 playerchoices of fun.
denmark never went communist and nuked stockholm but thats an achievement.

the historical effect was very much political and diplomatic in the north, the result is resources and industry to which side wins which should be reflected. both allies and axis should face a mid war iron/tungsten crisis and be forced to duke it out over the north.

That is semantics. Finland is nevertheless tied in with the other Scandinavian nations.

How is Finland tied with the other nations? Finland was not affected by the German invasion of Norway. Norway was not affected by the Winter war.

Sweden did play a part in the German invasion, as the iron ore trade with Germany was the reason WW2 reached Scandinavia. This aspect, aswell as Sweden allowing German troops to cross the border, could give a player some interesting choices in a focus tree.

And Finland not being part of Scandinavia is not semantics, whatever that entails.

While this is true it's perpetrated so much they might as well be. :p

Not an important factor honestly.

It's more important to call this either a Scandinavian or Nordic DLC (as that will be its name anyway) than to i.e make a portrayal of the Winter and Continuation War.

@ThaHoward its not a matter of that it happened its that its the most effective way to play. aus-hungary never revived, roman empire wasnt recreated, the british empire federation or francobritish union didnt happen. majority ofthe game is now alt history because half the userbase enjoy carving their own history.

It can be an alt.history focus just don't expect Finland who got their independence in 1918 and Norway in 1905 to just give in - especially since both decided to fight instead of surrendering.

I think that a country pack or DLC involving the Nordic nations should primarly focus on their geo-political importance. Naturally alt-history may play in, but it is more important to get the iron shipments from Sweden right than to give them a world conquest tree.

An idea for Norway could also be that in early game they can't produce ships, airplanes etc on their own, but must import them. They can create infantry equipment, as long ad they control Østlandet (that is where their arms factories are), but due to their "broken gun politics" they should have severe penalties for creating new military factories (but not for infrastructure and civ factories) and can't delete, raise or edit divisions.

If they hold out longer than they did historically (or go down an alternative path) these policies can be remedied and start a proper mobilization.

Speakingof mobilization, perhaps a new mobilization mechanic would be in place, or that Norway slowly raise new divisions as they mobilize after the DOW, to better portray the difficulties they had due to their late mobilization orders, and that per post. Which will (if not fixed) give Germany a better chance to take southern most Norway, but.struggle as the mid and northern parts mobilize and the allies arrive to still the tide - and give the king, gold ans merchant fleet enough time to fall to their hands and not the German hands.

It is an important factor because language matters and words have meaning. This is fundamental to have any productive discussion.

Now, of course this has nothing to do with the scope of DLC's, of course you could make a DLC including all sorts of countries, they don't need them to be part of the same "cathegory" but simply own the fact that the dlc is about Scandinavia AND Finland. Instead of trying to bend the meaning of words.
