I would like some more stress traits for rulers.

Now that we have level upable traits coming in the next patch I'd love to see some stress traits level up and maybe even potentially turn bad if overused.

Doesn't this already happen? I know if you are being too athletic you get "sweaty stench" modifier, and I've seen a neutral traits, such as "contrite" show up negative, something along the lines of "the character has said some disturbing things to their priest". I've had a character create a lot of jealousy when confiding in their courtiers too.

Well it could be made more clear I think with the new system. But I was more thinking like certain traits morphing into others. Like writing down your thoughts could lead to becoming contrite later. Or you can level up drunkard.

After a long playthrough and seeing my characters as well as the AI ending up with the same/similar stress traits over and over again I would like to make the proposition to have more Stress traits and events around it.

We currently have 11 negative and 3 positive traits and that hampers the replayability for a bit.

So I thought some more traits would actually help this department out and not let every 2nd AI-ruler become a flagellant or a drunkard. I think at least 10 more traits, positive or negative would be necessary to make the gameplay loop around stress more interesting.

5 propositions for specific stress traits from my side would be following:

  • Collector (Positive): Tries to distract himself with his collection of art, weapons and items. Always attempts to get more pieces and lashes out on people who damage his collection. Has the de-stress events to marvel at collection or if not enough collect more.
  • Entertainer (Postive): Tries to distract himself with lavish events, plays and tourneys and mostly focus on preparing those, which cost a lot of money. Has modifiers that weaken his reign but can bring in prestige through de-stress as a ruler hyperfocus on that aspect..
  • Traveller (Positive and Negative): Copes with his stress with travelling inkognito to have some change of pace. His travel de-stress cause a loss of prestige and gold and also some mishaps but also some positive events can happen through this journey.
  • Torturer (Stress trait and negative): Tries to cope with stress by torturing and executing others and revel in their pain. Can be applicable for dreaded rulers.
  • Avoidance (Negative): Tries to avoid any major decision while still not hiding like a recluse. A ruler avoids as much work and choices possible and even sometimes reject some of his duties as a de-stress mechanism.

But yeah. I think that new Stress traits should happen. Maybe even introduce the henbane and opium addiction that are hidden in the code. It would give some more variety as there are currently some stress traits that every player avoids.
Fully agree, we need more traits for stress management. The same ones get used over and over with flagellant and drunkard always seeming to be the most common. I'd also suggest a separate set that kids can pull from. Kids have ways of gaining stress just as much as adults but don't have access to any consistent ways to remove it. They can't hunt, they can't throw a party. They just collect stress and hope for something to come along to take it away before it turns into drunkard of flagellant.
Stress Traits should be Extreme Versions of Normal Traits you have. So if you have Brave you could get "Reckless", etc
I like this idea! Adds to martial and prowess but also increases the likelihood of being killed in battle. Losses stress when fighting a battle or dueling and unlocks a decision to duel or look for a fight.
Now that we have level upable traits coming in the next patch I'd love to see some stress traits level up and maybe even potentially turn bad if overused.
Seriously. The whole leveling traits aspect doesn't seem to be getting as much attention as it should be by us. It's a total game changer for sure and I can see it eventually being applied to so many traits. From the expected ones (Hunter, mystic, blademaster, pilgrim, etc etc etc) to stress events that start out smaller and can grow as you use them with big jumps if you use it during a mental break to even basic traits like brave, kind, cynical and everything else.

+1 They can't really do anything, sadly. They should be doing fun things to take stress away, or at the very least, realistic things.

I really liked Traveller and Collector in the main post. Having more stress-related traits in game would be awesome! I thought of an additional suggestion:

Daredevil
  • A stress trait where they reduce stress when they do dangerous things.
  • Danger Examples: Fighting Dangerous Animal Event, Duels, Travel in Dangerous Areas, Dealing with a Coup, etc.
  • Decision: Character does something dangerous to reduce stress.
    • Risk Life -> Major Stress Loss
    • Risk Major Injury -> Moderate Stress Loss
    • Risk Minor Injury -> Minor stress loss
