I wonder why we haven't seen any combined arms?

So in all of the WWW so far the division templates have all been mono infantry with a few support brigades thrown in. In hoi 3 combined arms was a big deal with countless threads about the best mixes of inf armor and art. I've seen none of that so far and I wonder why?

Is there going to be a strategic reason to have mixed divisions?

Also historically where divisions comprised of mixed brigades or where the predominantly all of a single type?

I'm currently (Well, little bits by little bits) watching the WWW between UK & Germany and I remember seeing some divisions (In both camps) being motorized, armored, etc.. There was some diversity. Don't remember if the players talked about it though..

Edit : Johan talked about the ratio of soft & hard attacks. Like "I'd like to have more hard attack for my divisions". Not sure if they talked about combined arms :/

Not accurate at all. Johan used alot of divisions with combined arms and while Daniel had a mostly infantry army near the end he had alot of light tank divisions that were using combined arms. We haven't seen any with japan because they dont really start with any and the twitch people were screaming for war so he decided to start war to early to build any.

I don't think it's the same as HOI3 where if you add certain units into a Division you get +X% combined arms bonus instead its all just in the unit stats themselves. Daniel and Jake couldn't answer it but I have yet to see an actual stat which assists combat just by having a mix of certain units in a division template instead they all sum to it's overall stat's so it doesn't exist unless @podcat can confirm as we knew it from the previous iteration.

The new system is so flexible and detailed I don't see why it needs a plastic bonus stuck on top by way of encouragement. Combined arms has its costs and rewards like everything else, and these are reflected in the stats themselves.

The idea is that a combination of infantry and tanks and artillery, where each compensates for the weaknesses of the other combine to make a force stronger that the mere combination of the whole. Without a combined arms bonus, there will be no incentive to build historically accurate divisions, and the most effective division templates will be gamey nonsense. We have already seen that in the WWW videos -- who needs artillery? The combined arms bonus is yet another feature that will be added, just like air supply, in a subsequent expansion.

We got no specific bonus atm no, and its something we are still tweaking stats for.

This !!! In much of my reading of tactical and operational battles for WW2 combined arms made the difference. The combination providing more COMBAT POWER than the sum of their parts. The allies learned this through Africa, and then Italy before graduating to the hard school of Normandy.

MD Doubler's Busting the Bocage: American Combined Arms Operations gives a good analysis. Look at all mid to late war footage of Urban fighting. Everybody know tanks are not optimal in Cities- but there they are providing much needed HE throwing. Artillery too !!

Plus- the incentive keeps the game fun by being immersive. I think Hoi4 will see more 'optimal' variants even with a Hoi3 style Combined Arms Bonus.
