I think a lot of people here are a bit unfair to GoT, comparing it to CK3.
GoT, at least the books and the first seasons try to tell a plausible and coherent story (albeit in a fantasy world). CK3 doesn't. That's the problem.
The events are not only not taking the medieval period serious (which would be okay), but don't take the characters of the game serious. Events just randomly pick some characters and slap a story or joke on them.

I‘m mostly annoyed by events that do not make logical sense, like your spymaster telling you about his plot to kill you etc. which admittedly is fun the first few times.
What I can‘t quite understand are the events that seemingly don‘t even check for the basic logical things like age, self correspondence etc.? They have worked hard the last months on this DLC and those mishaps must have been noticed by QA. I can only explain the presence of them as intentional for those first few reddit laughs and to later on get remedied by a hotfix.

Example, a 3 year old speaking and petitioning the king:

I think that in the middle point is the key. For me, it is true that some events and jokes are unnecessary, but they are usually compensated with others.
Still, didn't you find CK2 a bit more serious? it may be because of the portraits
CK-2 included a way to deal with the silliness.

After some time, I ended up turning off "absurd events" and "supernatural events" in CK2's options. Yes Glitterhoof and Polar bear events were funny for a while, but eventually I just wanted a more believable experience, focused more on the strategy aspect.

CK3 needs an option to turn off fart jokes before they get out-of-hand, or perhaps should I say "out-of-butt." *h'yuk h'yuk h'yuk*

Supply and demand
Paradox discovered that people follow the creators that make memes on their channel.
Memes are free publicity.
Free publicity attracts more consumers
Consumers give money to the company.
So you most make your games meme-able to earn more money, its simple.
I find it weirdly fascinating how fiercly people assert this despite, as far as I can tell, there being zero actual evidence for it.

If I remember correctly, the whole "CK3 is all about generating memes to increase sales" line originated way back before launch as part of the backlash against the inclusion of 3D characters in the game. People have since come around to the 3D characters and mostly like them now, but the arguments that were used against them somehow survived by attaching themselves to other parts of the game. It'd make quite an interesting study on sociology and discourse analysis.

(Honestly, the behaviour of a noisy and intemperate minority of the anti-RC posters has me tempted to buy the expansion pass precisely because they're being annoying brats about it.)
The DLC itself its pretty nice, i strongly advice to get it, any bug will be fixed in the following weeks.

You are remembering incorrectly, the thing started back in the CK2 days, when PDS announced Sunset invasion, one of the most underrated and hated DLC on this company's history. Or even earlier.

Every time I suggest CK to someone I know I get responses such as: "Oh that game where you can bang your sister and make an inbred dynasty?"

I wouldn't say that CK3 became more silly but I haven't played Royal Court yet. It might seem like it because there are few events that can happen regardless of lifestyle. Most events are lifestyle events and I think they are great, however, they become repetitive because many select the most optimal lifestyle. That's why silly events become more noticeable.

r/crusaderkings is the worst thing to happen to the CK franchise. The CK IP must be taken into custody by people who actually care. Paradox can no longer be trusted with it.

And increasingly a lot of anachronisms. But instead of taking a good look at the overall tone of the game, CK3 then leaned into the exaggerated and the absurd completely. It's there in great numbers right from the start.
FWIW, they did make the decision to avoid supernatural elements in CK3 for similar reasons. Which I do think was the right call. Supernatural creep was such a problem in CK2 that it eventually culminated in a DLC that was mostly torture porn that gave you magical powers.

Can you cite examples for silly stuff?

Ive played CK3 since the release of RC and cant remember any silly things.

However, I dislike the murders at court event.

My enjoyment in the CK series comes from immersive roleplay (single-player mode). I have been trying to make a go of it in CK3, but it is just not clicking for me. From the softer character art style and WoW style icons, CK3 seems to have taken on a cartoonish flavor. I find CK2 has a harder (i.e. more serious) edge despite the previously mentioned anachronistic fluff. Reapers Due and Holy Fury were the icing on the cake as far as immersion went. There was nothing quite as heart pounding as having a massive court and huge family only to see it melt away from wave after wave of pandemics and trying to manage the results. Even the old UI and static graphics added to that harder edge.

You are the Roman Emperor holding court and it has been brought to your attention that your court physician has been up to some grave robbing and, since you are Cynical, you loudly proclaim to the court that they should invite you along next time.

I think some of the complaints about silliness also conflate inappropriate event scales that aren't supposed to be silly. Like being a king and going for a walk alone and bumping into another king.

To be quite honest, I don't see how CK3 is any more sillier than CK2, and I like my CK to be quite serious and non-silly. The examples of CK3 silliness given in this thread are quite tame, in my opinion.
