after kicking these weird people back into the sea a few months ago as a restored Roman Empire i kept it on for my adventure as an Anglo Saxon English Emperor.
i got the message to say the were seen.i checked my military.i had access to over 30 000 soldiers and 3000 coins saved.
i thought to myself i shall once again throw them back into the sea.Big mistake.Mercs used all my money.Ally my troops died. The invaders laughed at my defence.I started the 1066 start and was Emperor of Brittiania.200 game years.
all was good until then when i quit after they took all of ireland and had about 150 000 invaders doing what they wanted.
has anyone defeated these people without being a massive Empire who could match their strength ?

Pre conclave it was easy to defeat them if you had spread your dynasty around the map. But with dynasty alliances removed, yea, you might need 100k troops of your own. Or just convert them, which they often do without having to be asked.

I always play with Sunset Invasion off.

They're quite powerful. They field about 150k troops.

Your troop count seems unusually low, are all your vassals content?

I defeated them as king of Aquitaine, part of the HRE (having about 20k troops myself, the Emperor had 30k, and some random allies like Venice, fielding 10k each and arriving one at a time, joined in because it was a religious war). It's not terribly hard, just exhaustive. And you need to be a bit lucky. You shouldn't spend all your money on mercs. You must simply prepare for a long war. Just rally all your allies, and go Zapp Brannigan on them. Just keep sending your levies, try to get advantageous battles wherever you can, but don't expect to win many. Just keep grinding. Your troops will replenish. Theirs won't. If the barbarians twist their ankles walking over the skulls of your countrymen, it aids you. Their 150k will turn into 120k, into 100k, and so on. Only when they had 10k left did I first win a battle against them. Try to keep the war goal out of their hands (I was lucky since they went for one county in Brittany, the only one they did not have yet and one I happened to possess myself, and somehow never got around to take it, always preferring running away to battles over completing that one bloody siege), and you won't lose the war too quickly. After fifteen, twenty years, we won. It was glorious from start to finish.

The trick to beating the Aztecs is that their event troops don't respawn, but your levies do. Especialyl vassal levies tend to respawn rather quickly. So you may wish to hold your demesne troops back, but feel free to spend your vassal levies to wear the bastards down.
