Realistically I think this is the best chance we've had in 10 years for it to be an ancient game.
If Norway is not on the map it probably wont go as far as china at start, but will do with DLCs. The Imperium Universalis MOD has shown the way offering various start dates going back into the Ancient Greek era (500 BC?? ). If they do that, add CK2 style Character management, Vicky style pops, in depth political mechanics (senate faction management etc), and a greater focus on the army, then it could be Paradox's best title.
However absence of evidence is not proof, so the fact they haven't denied it was Rome doesn't mean it is happening. We could all be very disappointed.

I think mentioning popular demand was just to mess with the Victoria 3 memers since the Pop Demand Mod is one of the most popular mods for that game. Also people are really latching onto the word "bard" despite the fact that just mentioning "the bard" doesn't necessarily mean "the game we're announcing has literal bards in it".
That said I am 90% confident that this will be a Roman-era game, possibly with the title "SPQR"
It's an ancient era game. Possibly Rome 2 or a rebrand, but equally likely to be set earlier.
I very much doubt AoW4 since Aow3 is not that old. Less than 4 years.
The bard, if you mean Shakespeare (though he isn't the only the bard who ever existed), is in the Eu4 period.
Yeah, but he did write plays set in the Roman period, most famously Julius Caesar, and it's quite possible they're going to quote the play or something during the reveal.
It's definitely not going to be EU5 though, and Shakespeare as we all know was the author/creator of the Ancient Rome universe.
The bard sound like singular and the hint do not say anything about if bards is going to be in the game at all so I would say it do hint towards a Rome game.
Because the CK2 dev diary from Monday both stated that they are giving the Crusades a major overhaul, and that they will be announcing the next DLC on PDXcon.
Before that I entertained the thought of CK3 being worked on, but this high-effort to fix one of the top 3 complaints about the game made me reconsider that.

Stellaris isn't even slightly possible though. The technology is extremely soft and things are weighted heavily in favor of game balance over realism. Things like psychics, the shroud, and the extradimensional invaders are basically sci-fi themed fantasy elements. I mean, I like the game too, it just seems like a weird reason to like it.
I'm struggling to make the point clearly, but "future history" feels a lot different to a high fantasy world. I don't think Stellaris is the greatest game ever, but it appeals to me a lot more than high fantasy because there's more of a connection to what we already have. I don't dislike fantasy itself, but I wouldn't go further than playing a CKII mod based on a book series. Stellaris serves as a platform for things like Star Trek/Star Wars mods, and was more requested by the community. I don't think a fantasy game really gives the community anything it doesn't already have and would probably end up being an unpopular niche entry like March of the Eagles or Sengoku.
Days ago i was 70% for Cold War game, and 30% for phantasy one... now, I`m 100% for phantasy game because there was two options, that i wanted to play, and there is only one of them left... and yes, if it really will be something antique i`ll be very dissapointed...
It's going to be Victoria III there is no doubt about that, anybody who thinks it isn't Victoria III is a follower and an idiot, a stupid idiot!
just because Rome or any other antique is not really higly demand... and many await Vic3 (not now), Cold war (not now), or really something phantasy based (still possible), just because both antique is not very popular time period, and Rome was not really good game... and something radically new will be better, than trying to revive something that was not good.
Based on the last Teaser, I am afraid it is going to be the a Runermaster type of game... So saaaaaad.
My personal tip is Ancient Era, maybe era before Rome was founded (753 BC) focused on old cities of Mesopotamia, Greece and Egypt. Probably called TROY or ILION. But I wouldn't mind if that game would be SPQR or Victoria III :-D
