There's a certain segment of the forum-goers who would say 'Working as intended, PI are genius game designers!' if the game scraped your credit card info and stole your checking account's funds to Sweden.
Which is pretty unfortunate because they seem to be permanent inhabitants of the patch threads which makes creating a valid point there very impossible since, as Alfy pointed out, it causes anyone trying to make a stand there look like an idiot.

Personally, I have no such delusions. (My signature should tell you my confidence level with regards to PDS itself.) Problem is: PDS sets the boundaries within which the modders are restricted, and the restrictions are relaxed as the game ages. There's also RL issues with modders, and the plain-old burning out. All things considered, waiting has always been a pre-requisite to enjoy PDS games.

Any mods available which remove shattered retreat and coalitions?

I'm pretty sure you can just edit some lines to get rid of the two, but HIP and CK 2+ are worth your time to evaluate and see if they suit your play styles.

Paradox does not actually think it's a sizable part of their player base. Check this thread: https://forum.paradoxplaza.com/foru...r-problem-reports-checksum-yzaz.911704/page-1. Darkrenown makes it clear.

By the way, that thread is strangely devoid of anyone who dislikes the changes. I can understand people getting tired of beating a dead horse, but it makes a couple of poor sods making a stand there looking like idiots...

I can only speak for myself , but you just stop caring once you realise that this new direction is the way they are going come hell or high water . I am glad the forum dwellers are happy , myself I hate the nerfing , the restriction on play styles that "everyone" wanted and the complete disregard for any version of events other than the DLC is just fantastic from those who frequent here .

I hate the micro managing , I dislike shattered retreat and the new DLC simply removed choice , a stupid , stupid move imo . And don't get me started on the halving of traits diplomacy etc. They threw up a few extra mechanics , made us lose control of our armies and turned us into feudal babysitters . And if this is the new direction , count me out .

Pretty much everyone here agrees on what is the problem with current CK2: too much strategy, rigidity and kneecapping, too little roleplaying, openness and challenge.

However, at this point it's unrealistic to expect Paradox to make drastic changes to this game. As I've said before, this community should focus on proper feedback and campaigning to make sure that CK3 will turn out right even if it is to happen in several years.

No way. I haven't spent hundreds of dollars to sit and wait 4 more years for CK3 to come out. They don't need to remove the functions they added, but they do need to FIX them better. Furthermore there's no reason in future DLC to cut back on options and choices that once again create the fun atmosphere we had in the early years of the game. Remember the fun commercials they made for CK2? That amazing sense of wonder, and unexpected craziness? It's been nerfed and much of that has to do with focusing on technicality instead of the game. As someone mentioned earlier there is a pretty bad problem with the developers (in both HOI IV and CK2) putting a lot of effort into items people don't want or will throw away by modding them out. This is really inefficient and wasteful design philosophy. Unfortunately the success of the past years meant for many of us expansions were auto-buys, so Im' sure sales are fine... but the past 6 months have come as a massive wake up call to us. And while sales my not reflect it yet, I am pretty sure the next expansion releases are going to suffer on release unless Paradox can get back to the way they were in 2014.

I really, really want this game to be more about choice and interesting things happening. If it means there's a giant blob in one of my games that wipes us off the board? So what! My next game should/could be very different. But right now every game is playing out way too similarly and that is not what built the house that PDX sits in.

I was semi okay with shattered retreat until I lost a battle and had to sit there watching as it retreated completely out of my control to a place I didn't want it to be. They should at least let us change its coarse or disband it while its retreating as anything is better than having it retreat to somewhere its of no use.

But that is the issue . it is a new mechanic that reduced player control . There was nothing wrong with the game with shattered retreat absent , all they have done is drag out the wars making them more costly and combined with the auto call to arms no strategy initialising different allies in different ways . And this is the way forward in a grand strategy game apparently .

[...] combined with the auto call to arms no strategy initialising different allies in different ways . And this is the way forward in a grand strategy game apparently .

I know they explained it but auto call to arms still makes no sense. Being able to use my allies as mindless automatons that will spit out troops no matter what doesn't make CTAs more important or give them more weight it just makes it more like 'a video game' and less like a simulation. Besides there's nothing stopping me from hold back a bit if I'm drug into a war so in the end it doesn't really hurt the player kinda just annoys them.

This feels like a choice made by someone who never played CKII and never considered the end user experience at all.

Well, you may want those things in current CK2, but it is, to put it bluntly, not going to happen. Game is on the final cycle of development, there are about two new expansions left with devs moving on another projects afterwards. It was already stated that Conclave was the last major overhaul for the game and last DLCs would have a scope of WoL. Best thing that may occur is them adding some neat content in the last few DLCs with final round-up clean patch.

"Creating the fun atmosphere we had in the early years of the game" is not on their agenda and is not worth the cost. Therefore better to wait for CK3 to get what you want, while reverts and mods would be there as a viable alternative.

So it's not just me... the game has lost a lot of its charm. I had the most fun in the game when Old Gods was released.

Shattered Retreat is what I hate most. It makes battles much longer and it seems rather unrealistic: medieval battles were very decisive.

Coalitions are a pain in the rear, but they got Nerfed into next to nothing in the new Patch (thank goodness). I like the challenge Conclave brings, but I do agree that the Council Revolt fires too often.

In my opinion, it should only fire when you are close to becoming an absolute power or are flat out absolute! That would allow people to make, say, Grant and Revoke Titles into ruler-only, but keep the Council from revolting until EVERYTHING is Council only.

It needs BALANCE, not removal.

Traits diplomacy was beyond broken before. It was so easy to stack the earlier modifiers and keep your relations consistently high, to the point where you could kill off dissent in your realm for decades if not an entire century. Even when you reached dizzying sizes of expansion. That part of your post alone deserves a disagree from me

I'd seriously recommend downloading HIP or CK2+. They both - in my opinion - vastly improve the experience (my personal preference is HIP). The main issues with Conclave are gone or hugely reduced and pretty much everything else is improved.

Roll back to the last good patch 2.4.5 and disable that abomination of a DLC Conclave. With the devs all but confirming there will not be any more map expansions there is really no reason to force yourself to keep up to date with them game especially when Conclave and the patches after 2.4.5 are horrible. Better to play an out of date yet fun version of the game a version you bought the game to play rather than force yourself to play a poorly optimized, unfun, horrible, not what you bought the game for, yet up to date version.
Many thanks. This made the game much more enjoyable for me.
