Well, I already suffer from the misery of a dial-up connection (too far out in the country to get anything else), so only the first half of that is a threat! But what a threat it is.

Forgive me, for I have sinned.

I once... no, twice... no, a hundred times in a game typed in "Montezuma". Add to that file editing, judicious (or not) use of the other cheats... Have I commited a mortal sin?

D*mn, that is impressive. I can hardly spell Moctezuma once.. :D

"casually cheating"

thats a funny term to use for it.

o...just a little here....and a little there....and o i forgot about this here....and o yeah gotta do this thing there.

casually cheating is more addictive than casual drug use. soon everytime that 10K cavalry army loses to those 20K rebels a cheat will be in place to "give them what they should of gotten in the first place"

but anyway, i dont have a problem with cheaters (i am one myself, with women not games though:D ) just thought id throw in some comments and have some fun myself.

How about a "social cheater?"

well, if i play a serious non-cheat game (for my AAR for example) i don`t cheat at all. However, once I play a "cheating" game i use probably every possible cheat, although in the first place the events-cheat. It is rather funny to inherit Bourgondy as Gelre for example (event 3597) ;)
OK ok, it isn`t.....

Hmm, as long you can admit to yourself that a game you play isn`t "serious" and one that you`ll talk to your friends with pride that you have been victorious, i don`t see why you wouldn`t cheat, either to make the game easier, or harder, or to help/penaltize the ai.
BTW, That`s kinda funny, playing like god and try, by use of randomevents, to get the history back on the track: So, France is losing to Brittany? type event 1027 BRI twice and Bretons suddenly find another divertion than kicking the french. Need Ottomans a bit more support? type event 1009 TUR a few times and maybe once or twice 1110 TUR and maybe they will even dow the Mameluks. :)

I didn't know that the use of tags cause events for that country. That explains how Peter Ebbesen triggered events for the Papal States. Thank you kindly.

OK, I'll admit I was so pissed off that my 143 ducats for a missonary failed when playing Albania and trying to convert my one an only province that I altered the save game file to success = yes, rather than no. I continued this game for about a day and felt so bad that I had to restart the entire GC.

How can I overcome the feeling of guilt?

Here are other "cheats" I must confess (though none as blatant as the yes/no issue)

- Using units in a foreign country I have military agreement with and fighting natives to free up the trading post.

- "exploring" the above country with none conquistator units.

- "exploring" adjacent provinces that I shuoldn't be able to see.

- Getting military access from Portugal and Spain in the early 1400's even though there is no possible way I should know that they will eventually become useful ports once exploration begins

- Not responding to a War summons and leaving it on the screen so that I neither break my alliance nor go to war.

- Upon receiving new colonists that would take me over 6 and hence lose them, during the pause that the message is on my screen, I pan over and get rid of colonists by sending them to trade posts or colonies so that I can take in the full compliment

No problem, I usually do (if I get my allies in to my war) that for two month, leave the screen on, I mean, so that I could move my armies to the province I want, to get my aims. then I invite allies into war, so that they distract my enemies whom may be lifting the seige, and divide their armies so that I can conquer some more. Most of my allies tend to be vassels or teh candiate of Vassel so any land they took is what will be my, hence a bonus.

No problem, that is senisble, in fact, I think that 6 colonist max is too limited, 10 would be better but you have to work with what you got, so it is not really cheating.
