I'm loving everything about this mod, except for the missing coats of arms.
I don't care about the missing akaviri coats of arms because i like to play in Tamriel, but all those grey "?" dunmer baronies and duchies really hurts my eyes.

The problem is that Dunmer heraldly is very different from medieval or even other elder scrolls cultures, just add random coats of arms might be better then having blank ones, but it's still immersion breaking.

Since i don't know how to create coats of arms from scratch, i'm not sure how should i do it.
1)I could just take the akaviri coats of arms and put them in morrowind. Easiest solution, i could put all the coats of arms very quickly and easily, and that is probably what i'll do if no one has a better idea or can help me with the next 2 hypothesis.

2)Find some dunmer heraldly or something remotely similar on the internet. I didn't find anything, so if someone is willing to share or knows where to find them on the internet that would be a much better solution then 1).

3) I have morrowind (the game) and that could be a pretty good source i guess, but i have no idea on how to extract stuff from that game, does anyone knows how could i do it? Bear in mind i'm not a modder nor experienced in graphic stuff, so if it's too complicated i will probably fail.

So any ideas/suggestion/help is welcome :). Of course if the devs allows it i will create a minimod and share with you guys.

As a stopgap measure i replaced the missing coats of arms with stuff stolen from game of thrones mod and wharammer mod. While it's not very lore friendly i still find it much better then having all those "?" coat of arms :)

Well, if you wanted to do some work: Go to the data files folder in Morrowind and do a search for "banner," look for the dds files. You can use those and resize them to 128 pixels x 128 pixels and them save them as .tga files. It stretches them out a bit, and I haven't actually tried using them in-game, but that might work out for you.

As far as I know, if you wanted to do that you could probably only do that with your own version of the mod without angering Bethesda. If Korbah or the team wanted to directly use assets from an Elder Scrolls game in this, they would almost certainly need to ask Bethesda for permission to do so even if permission was required to make this mod in the first place since making a mod based off their gaming franchise and using assets from one of their games are two totally different things. For all intents and purposes, I'd say this isn't a practical solution.

Could you tell a newbie how to do this? Thanks in advance.

You need to edit the flagfiles_0.tga located in documents/paradoxinteractive/crusader kings2/the elder kings mod folder/gfx/flags. I used Gimp to open it.

The grey coats of arms with ? are the dunmer ones. Take some coat of arms from another mod or base game (another flagfiles.tga) and fill all the empty grey coat of arms. I used rectangle selection tool to copy and paste.
I'm sure there are better ways, but they don't look bad at all in game.

If later you want to change a coats of arms because it doesn't fit that specific barony or whatever other reason, it's really simple, now every dunmer barony has a distinct image, just look at what coats of arms you want to change in game, find it on flagfiles_0.tga and change it.

Oh and when you finish make a backup of your modded flagfiles, don't know why but sometimes it resets to default, maybe it's a developer version thing.

Yeah you are right, i guess the only way to release a submod would be to have some graphic skill and actually make original assets. And anyway changing the flags using the above method is really easy, anyone can do quickly.

There is, though it saves you very little effort in the long run. Open the file you want to edit. Go to Open As Layers and find the file you want to replace it with. Once you've opened it as a layer, merge down the layers, which will effectively delete the lower layer and replace it with the one you want.
Saves you maybe a click or two and a few windows. Not a lot in the long run though.
